I was the first owner of the waterlogged Virage. I never kept it in the water and I kept it covered. But we did ski a lot, so the carpet was often wet. I think Hydrostream made a mistake trying to seal the sponsons and having no drains. It's quite possible the water from the carpet made its way into the sponsons.
The Virage is a pretty cool boat. Reasonably fast, stable, roomy, and a decent ride.

Water in the outer sponsons
On my Project Laser Virage I drilled 3" holes into the floor of each outer sponson just inside the back of the cubby holes for access to water buildup.
Laws of physics dictate that any enclosed space regardless of what material it's made out of will accumulate water. I soaked up a good 2-3" of water when I first drilled those holes (it was a '90 Virage and I drilled those holes in say '99). Ironically, once the holes were in place condensation never accumulated for 3-years (not an ounce).
Hydrostream probably enclosed the to achieve more bouyancy with less foam. Either that or they were lazy as hell.

Hey Ron. This is Garrett's old Virage. Added new Pioneer stereo, 4 new Pioneer Speakers, all new LED Trailer lighting, bearing buddies, new trailer winch, new trailer coupler. I love this boat. Nicest I have ever owned and rides thru chop like a breeze. This is a keeper for sure. Please post pics of yours when you have chance. Take care!!

Here's mine its an 89 stage 2 12 inch bobs jack plate xr4 150(blown) 70 mph 1 person half tank of gas before it blew. Its pretty beat up. Been wanting to restore it since i got it 5 years ageo but never wanted to take it off the water. We are relocating at the end of the week to mid Michigan so it will be my first winter project. I will be starting a restoration thread once we are settled.

Sounds good Ron!!! Can't wait to see your article at Hydrostream.org. Mine is getting winterized this coming Friday and going into inside Winter storage day after for 6 months. Going to be a real long winter for sure. Took my last run yesterday and the weather was spectacular as well as all of the brilliant foliage. Had the lake all to ourselves other than a couple of bass and pontoon boats.
