Hey SCT, I'm having the bracket repainted first. I ran some GPS numbers yesterday so I can make some direct comparisons before I install the Stainless Marine 8" setback. With the Trophy Plus 26 turning 6900 rpm, my Garmin GPS showed 74.3 MPH with a full gas tank, two adults, and a cooler. Pretty good for a completely stock 14 year old 3.0 liter!!! Ironically, my Livorsi speedometer also read 74 MPH...I've never owned such an accurate waterpressure speedometer!!! On a different note, we ran the open ocean south from Jupiter to Palm Bch in a 2-4'+ NE swell with the occassional easterly rogue wave catching us off guard. Came off the top of a swell at about 50 mph, landed on a rogue easterly wave and the boat corkscrewed in the air and came down HARD on the port side. I thought I lost my first mate..she was airbourne right after we launched!! Came down so hard that I sheared the pop rivits holding the port rub rail on!!!!! Easy enough fix and it made for an exciting ride...we did take the Intercoast WW on the way home though!!! Had I been in a lighter, non cored boat there would have been some damage!!!

Good thing you weren't in a light lay up boat or you'd be the first one this year swimming to shore...maybe..........

WOW Thanks
Geez guys I didn't think that asking this question would get so much in answers....After talking to you guys and reading more about the Hydrostream hulls, build quality, and coring issues, I think I'll keep my Heavy,Slow,Pig Girl boat for a while....This year me and a buddy that builds very very limited production hand made Cobra bass boats is helping me put the jack plate on,repair 2 tiny soft spots on the floor, check over the rest of the structure, and remove the ugly ass stainless steel grab handles..I think they look ugly and when you look at the 2009 Checkmate 1600, its actually the exact 100% same as my 1982 Checkmate Enticer, same hull to a T, the top cap is a hair different only in 2 small areas where they changed some small trim areas...but I hope we can fill the holes and simply repair 2 small tiny minor scratches and then the outside will be 100% showroom perfect, not bad for 27 years of use...But I feel and others do to by getting the 6 or 8 inch Slidemaster jack plate, and a Raker prop, preferably worked by D.A.H props, which know a thing or 2 about OMC props and propping in general...If that doesn't satisfy my needs we have a early 1st year 175 F.I.C.H.T. that I may price out taking the fuel injection off and making it a carbed motor, but price may come into that, My BRP Head of Service said hed peak at it and see what it would take to make it work, at least 1 new piston but ive been told to do all 6 and haved the cylinders cleaned up?? But once again being a true single dad I gotta be cost conscious, but a cheap DFI with all of the updates and mods of course because I dont want to lose money, but I know of more good 150-175 "Nightmare" motors that have been updated and decarbed yearly and run like rockets, I think just like all early DFI's excluding Yammie who waited that if you are some what lucky and the motors were checked and updated your pretty safe, But long story short a 150-200 small block and some slight pad and hull work for safety along with the steering upgrades,I feel that this could be a boat capable of embarrasing some other "Hot Rod Boats" especially in real world conditions and be safe for those once in a while 3 foot wake jumps, these 'Mates really do ride killer, Ive sold Ranger Big deep v walleye boats, which ride like caddys or Lexus cars, or Malibu Wake board boats, and this checkmate really impresses me for how short it is, hull and construction quality is a nice thing......If I want to go 0-70 really fast we have some blown up Sea-Doos and PWCs that I could mod the 2 strokes in and really have some fun......Sorry for the long response but wanted to answer some questions and see what the FICHT guys and OMC guys think of that early DFI......

there is a reason that OMC went under..... it was the fitch injection that killed them..... need i say more

BWORNER, I think you're on the right track by keeping you Checkmate and making the repairs needed. It's a proven hull and has been around for many years. I would be careful in your motor choice. Simplicity may be the best choice for your application. I would hunt down a 2.0 liter Merc 150xr2 or a Merc Black Max 175 carb motor and avoid the possible grief with the Ficht motors.

thanks for your input and concern guys, but when you work for a Evinrude dealer that is "In the Loop" with BRP we can get some difficult things done....I may make it carbed, redo it stock and risk it, but really it wasn't as big of a deal as it was made out to be, done get me wrong Im not be complacent, just ideas at this point...If I find a Looper 140 or 150-175 Fast Strike that would be better, but more money.....Brannnon

i personally would love to see a hot rodded 140 on it.. looks more in proportion to the smaller hull IMO and should be able to pump it to almost 200

150, how the hell would I take my 140 Crank rated motor, to 200 HP? Remember mine is a X FLow, not a looper......A # of guys told me that with the right work the XFlows can really put down the power and be dead nutts reliable...Id love to make it simply run more efficiently thru Carb,Heads, and air box and exhaust mods to make some more power, everyone tells me that the 140 X Flow has the good heads, carbs and the bubble back exhaust......So how do I build it up??
