Dude that is a Bad Ass Checkmate......How does it run with the 300X? It has to be killer out of the hole yet pull you back in the mids......Does she top out around the magic # or close? Its funny how from about my Checkmates Era to now they still look familiar...At the Milwaukee Boat SHow 2 weeks ago I was checking over the 2009 Version of my boat, the Pulsarre 1600, the screws, cup holders, seats, bow area were 100% the Exact same,...top cap has a couple trim differences, but the hull has not changed at all, and mine is a 1982! I cant wait to get my X Flow 140 "original" out in some clean water, jack it to the moon and watch my Raker prop take me into that magical area of V4 music.....any more pics of your animal there?

Checkmates heavy.. answers
Reading all these old post on Checkmate.. the answer depends on where you bought the boat. On Long Island New York, O'Neills boat yard had them laid up heavier to last longer in the ocean and rough chop of the bay.. it also depends on the model.. enchanters had the best hull for speed with it's mod v. Starflights and newer models tended to have a deeper v with a step however had hooks in the rear of the hull to enable better planning.. The starflight and convincer models were solid in chop and ocean.. if you're looking for Cadillac cruising over 70mph Checkmate is it. If you want higher top speeds and a wild ride then Hydrostream is your game. They are much lighter with a mod v and tunnel on the flat portion going to the stern think of riding on a water ski bottom.. in terms of hull longevity you will have to invest in extra glass for repairs with Hydrostream..

Are the newer Checkmates using wood for stringers and transom or have moved to composite?

From what I hear they now use composites and be prepared for sticker shock. While I like checkmates I think there are better boats out there for the prices they are asking.

I just got out of a Charger DL. I like the Checkmate because of the decent performance with a bowrider option. I need a boat with more capacity but, I still want some speed. My lake that I’m on kicks up pretty good. The Charger hull starts really shallow so, lots of pounding. Do you by chance know what year Checkmate switched to composite?

Last year when Caldwell Marine bought Checkmate so all new ones will be composite. If the boat was cared for there is little worry about the older ones. My Pulse186 is a 92 and is rock solid, but I'm only the 4th owner and the boat spent its life inside.
Still can't go wrong with Checkmate, the prices I saw were dealer list prices so probably not as expensive depending on options and power. I think Randy Corson is still a checkmate dealer, might want to give him a call.2023 Progression 22 w/ 2015 Mercury 300XS. 2018 Kawasaki Ultra LX. 1969 Hustler Wildcat.
