    Checkmates, are they heavy???

Hey Guys, some of you have seen some of the 'tarded posts and questions that Ive posted, Sorry Im a newbie......I sell boats for a living and have for years, All the guys I chat with here run Hydrostreams, and they all say that my Little 16 1/2 ft Checkmate Enticer is way too heavy to go fast, well today at the local Boat Show they had a 09 Checkmate 1600 Pulsare, exact same boat as mine, just 25 yrs newer, and I mean the same!!! Also a guy was talking about Minx Power boats, a guy out of Fla that has a Original V King mold is making a old Stream made modern,no wood core all Nida board or Omni Board some crap, but it weighed 50lbs more than mine, granted its 15inches longer, but why is my Checkmate too heavy to go fast,I figured speed had to do with the narrow pad and hull design,it kicks ass in rough water, but is not fast......sorry for the elaborate post but I wanted to be clear....

    Nice Boat

The Diff bettweny the CK and Hydro is the bottom shape. I am not saying they are the same weight. Don't know the diff in weight. The hydro will fly nose high. The Ck will go fast nose down. My .02

The new Checkmates are as good as any as far as a quality build for the price you are paying. The 21 closed deck is probaly abot 250 to 35o lbs heavier the the Hydrostram Vegas at 20 foot!!Either boat with the same power 300 hp will put you in the 90's The vegas will put you near the century mark but both will be a handful to drive without the right seat time.

I think the boat in Florida is a splash, and the boats are too cheap to be quality.

Bottom shape counts as much as weight. Sorry, but some V hulls are faster than comparable size/weight Checkmates. There is more to boating than speed for some people, or so I've heard. If you are only interested in speed, you could do better than a Checkmate.

I own both a Checkmate Pulsare 2100 and a Hydrostream Valero YT bowrider. I can tell you that the Checkmate is without a doubt a better built, higher quality boat. Weight in a boat is very relative to what type of boat your're talking about. A 20/21' mate will weigh more than a 20' Allison SS, new Hydrostream Voyager/Venom, but they are very comparable in hull weight for example to a 22 Progression, Velocity or Superboat. (a 21' Checkmate Pulsare hull weighs in at 1375 pounds) All Checkmates are fully cored with end grain balsa in both the top deck and hull, this alone makes them heavier (but stronger) than a lightweight purpose built (STV, Euro, Mirage, etc.). In rough water weight is your friend...my Checkmate will go through water that I wouldn't even contemplate in my Stream or the 21' Talon I've owned...in fact, the Velocity is the only other boat I've owned that would keep up with my Pulsare through snotty water. I've also owned a 17' Checkmate Spectra 170..it ran upper 50's with a Merc 150Xr2 and the little boat would plow through chop!

Brannon it is simple. If you want to go fast, then ditch the pig. If not then you you will be getting your checkmate/140 hp azz handed to you all summer by a hydrostream with a STOCK 85 hp
In reference to the Hydrostream Power Tour:

Its depends on what your looking for. If your going to boat in something other than a dead flat lake get a checkmate. The extra weight will help in the chop.

the older mates were pretty close in weight to the older streams. My 16' mate ran in the 80's with a stock 200 merc. A vector or v-king would be around 90 mph i think.

without a doubt the streams are a faster hull. BUT, take a look at how many have sunk to the depths due to their light lay up.
Boatless at the moment. Looking for a 24-25' V

Listen guys, I own both a Mate and a Hydrostream. Anytime one of you guys wants to take on some real water (not 6" chatter chop), I'll be happy to show you the azz end of my Checkmate! Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy flying my YT Hydrostream in flat calm, but it ain't half as fun as jumping swells!!

No I only know of two hydrostreams being built by Jim in Tennessee and by Jonh Spaeth in Cananda. Georgia Stream is now buying the hulls from Jim just like Randy does with Liberator. He then does all the rigging wiring and finishing touches himself.
