Hi Ginger, any progress with your project? I grew up in PR and saw that boat racing down there in the 90's , awesome boat!!!

Not really because the person who own's the boat put the project on hold for now and i see that you are moving right along and looking good

Really nice work!!!! I was informed the only reason Peter lays up with epoxy is cure time ( more time with epoxy )

Bingo....With epoxy you can have cure times of hours versus minutes with the ester resins. This allows the time to do the lamination schedule correctly with less margin for error/rework. Also the shrink rate of epoxy is more than 50% less than the typical ester resin. Less shrink means less warp. That makes for a more accurately reproduced part from the mold. That's the benefit to Skater.

The additional benefits of epoxy over the esters are:

Better Adhesive Properties, Superior Mechanical Properties, Better Water Permeation Resistance.

Those are the benefits to the Boat Owner.

When I bought my 32 classic I knew the boat was V-E resin which as you know has zero Ethanol issues but played along saying it needed tanks repaired . Bought it cheap

I get just about everything i need from Douglas Marine / Skater including the Epoxy they use which is Shell and has a very longggggggggg pot life and takes 48 hours to cure and tensile strength is rated very high and using all the latest and greatest composites such as Kevlar ,Carbon Fiber , S-and E-Glass along with Vacum bagging , there is no subsitute other then Epoxy because some fabrics are only designed to be used with Epoxy , as long as they do not have a chop back or (binder) like 1708 .

Most people think because a boat is Epoxy it is light , not true all resins weigh the same the key is how you use them and as you said the long cure time with epoxy / vacuum bagging I would think give you more time to get things right . With regular Ester resins I'm always in a mad ruch before kick off

More pics of my pile of crap / One of the pics shows transom as I took delivery , it had the ramp for third engine , no engine well and 4 x 7 inch hole where each engine sat , skater rigged a few boats this way back in day . I made a mold to make a fiberglass engine well, it was a ton of work but someone had to do it .

Hi BTR, Hey just wondering about the center ramp, can that be added to a Skater 24 or Motion 25 in order to rigged with one motor? Thinking in a 300xs, I think should be able to reach 80 mph. Your thoughts?.
