I see that you are in the glass biz your self.. How the heck do you manage to keep the doors open with all the enviro and other regs and B.S. that the govt. puts ya thru. Quite an accomplishment to be in business since 1964. WOW is all I can say! My project boat is not on a schedule, so I do things at a slower pace and the only goal is to satisfy myself. I got out of the glass biz mainly due to impatient customers not understanding that making quality repairs and products is very time consuming. Are you working on any projects that are for your own entertainment?

my company has been around longer then I have been alive. Im not a marina on the water, and im not a body shop, so I guess they dont know to classify us?
We try to keep the shop clean, respect the neighboors, and take care of the local police, bay constables, and fire departments when they need something on thier work boats or equipment.

some work is more profitable then others, full restos are not one of them, but they are a blast to do and when others look at the boat and ask who did it then thats the best advertising you can ask for.

I guess im lucky that I dont have enough time to have a interesting project of my own, honestly im too undecided and being that I just purchased the business 3 years ago from my former boss and founder, I really dont have the disposable funds for a big project. Hopefully one day.

You are dead on about the restos, I much prefer to do the smaller jobs and get them in and out of the shop. Makes more money and are less stressfull. I see many of the boats and thier owners that I have worked on or built out on the water. I gives me a real feeling of pride to talk to them and see how much joy the things I do gives them! Most of my customers also become my friends... My guiding biz works much the same way.. customers becoming friends.. And thats like you said the best advertising you can get!

No doubt..that is some really nice looking work..I noticed you had it in a "tent"? How big? looks like something i could use to get the dust out of the garage.

The tent is made out of the plastic used to shrinkwrap boats. Made trusses out of 10' 2x4s that pitch up about 2' at center. Walls are made of 2x4s 8' long and assembled in 8' squares covered in plastic. The panels have hinges between every other one so they can be folded together to store. The roof is one pc. of plastic spread over the trusses and clamped to the side walls. Makes a nice paint room with panels on one end having air filters in place and a big fan on the other blowing out! You can regulate the air flow by blocking the fan with cardboard. I built this to do my hydrostream re-build in. You can work for a couple of hours and just walk away and leave every thing out. No bugs, rain, dew etc. This has been thru many wind storms with little damage. If cut or ripped just use shrink tape to fix.... One panel on the fan end has a door made into it. This room is 16' wide and 40' long by 10' high. Can be assembled in 1-2 hours by one person. Filter end is the door to get the boat inside.

Trying out some rub rail (actually taco edge trim) on the V-King, of all the types i have seen i think this will work best. Its very small and lite. Will install it with an adhesive caulk, shouldnt need any fasteners. What do y'all think of it? Finally have some time to get working on it again and finish it out... Been trying several paint ideas with tape, and have decided red on the deck with black phase stripes on the outer deck area... Kinda simple and havent seen another stream like it..

Maybe the best thing about it is the price.. About 1 buck @ ft. If it gets dinged up, just replace it! Also a 50' pc weighs only 5# or so...Really lite! Any way I can save some weight is good!!! Also will be making lt.wt. seat bases soon and will post some pics. Starting to get fired up about the paint job, just hope theres not another one like it...Im keeping it simple so it will be easy and once again lite..

That rub rail is a good idea. Might have to look into that myself.

hippie.. This trim is made by taco marine. Its sold by some boaters stores. I get mine from a marine surplus place in Ft. Myers. The opening is 1/4" and the width is 1/2". I will use the black 5200 caulk to install it.
