XR-6 case!!!! how much horsepower is safe, what speed is safe????
wanting to put together an XR-6 case. have read good and BAD things about the xr-6 case. It will be on an Ally drag. I'd love to play with it on my 280, but if it isn't strong enough, I'd play with a strong lil 200 or maybe a 150 when i'm just messing off.
Any and all experienced opinions appreciated.

Hey Randy, if done right it'll hold up... look at David Pou's Q-ship at the Finallee, kikkin ass and didn't break!!!!
He's the reason I went back to an XR-6, only this time I did it to last!!! Made 6 passes friday and broke the mid (that's 2 this year and 1 last year)

A stock XR6 gearcase is probably marginal surfaced with 150 HP. That's my experience with the XR4 gearcase. I've blown up 3 lower units with an almost stock XR4. They last longer if you don't surface them, but that hardly seems the goal on an Ally drag.

Randy, on that boat it'll prolly be fine. Heavy hull is what smoked mine. Outta all the gears in it there was only 2 teeth left (TOTAL)

300 lbs of compression.
Dammit, U boyz iz got sum bad azz 1/8th mile times...I'm gunna have ta start runn'in 300' at my ralleyz...Maybe who kan cover tha first 100' witout touch'in tha water, dat would be a good spectator pleezer
Randy, Lil geercases will break before bigg'unz, but tha lighter tha bote, tha better it handles HP.....It's all a shot in tha dark sumtimes...put tha good stuff in that lil case, and it should last.......I run a XR-4 case in pro120 wit a 2:33 geer out ov a 75HP LU for 3 yeerz without break'in it(1250# bote, approx250+HP)....My buddy run tha same geer set up, and went thru 3 sets in one weekend!!!...Setup??...Maybe, but he set mine up too!!!!

16.4cc Rex
My point is he is breakin A LOT of parts, motors, gearcases, midsections.... MIDSECTIONS
An XR with good parts inside will last fine, the problem is the housings are weak. Both the skegs and where the pinion gear is. If you are gental with the XR it will live in race only form.2023 TUFF 25

Hey Randy, are you gonna have an XR-6 L/U ready for the 17th? If not I can bring one for you to try.

Randy, in 1996 i built a xr6 with 2.1 inline gear set for my xr2002 with a mod. 200. In 98 i put a 300 drag on it and in 2001 i sold the gearcase to Garrell for his pro gas boat. He ran it till last year before it broke and not the gears. It's the clutch that broke. Trex can tell you that i used it almost every weekend when i had it. But you must take good care of it and change the oil regular and avoid dumping it in gear at high idle. later Larry D
