    torque

No Dave, lookin for actual ft lbs of specific torque, building a new ski rig and trying to figure out weight to torque specs cause HP is really usless in my application for a flat bottom ski boat.Cant find it anywhere Googled the crap out of it too.

You need to know the horsepower at a specific rpm. Check the service manual. It should rate the hp at a specific rpm, probably 5000. Multiply the hp times 5,282 and divide by the rpm. 115 X 5282 divided by 5000. Should be 121.4 ft lbs.

It's true that he can get the torque at max HP with the above calculation, but he needs to know the torque at low rpm. All things being equal, more cubes = more torque. You can get more HP with revs instead of cubes, but not more torque.

Boost is another story of course.

Why would you need to know torque rather than hp?

    Torque/HP

I have a crazy idea to build a Sanger flatty V-drive with a small turbo diesel, the only comparison I can use is hull size/wieght/configuration of my Sanger Barefoot with the 115 OMC that has way more power and speed than required for a dedicated ski boat.I would like to use a 75/100 HP 4 cyl they have close to 200 ft of torque at very low rpm.Just wondering what the actual torque of my OMC was for a bench mark.

Torque is not the important factor as it can be compensated for by adjusting gear ratio or pitch. You can not compensate for horsepower.

Diesels also work differently from gas motors. You may only have 100hp but you can have 350 ftlb of torque.

And from what it sounds like he is trying to do, that would most likely work.

No, it won't ... its not torque that makes the boat go, it is horsepower.

The differences in maximum torque and the rpm where the torque occurs may mean the boat will need to use direct drive or over drive rather than reduction between the motor and prop shaft.

Since the diesel will be adding more weight to the boat, a diesel with more horsepower than the outboard had will be needed, regardless of the torque. Probably minimum of 150 hp.

The 121 ft-lb number sounds good for the 115

Why would you say that? It doesn't sound like it's going to turn over 5252, has sorta equivalent HP, and almost double the torque? I think you're wrong, but that's just my opinion.
