Hi,
After sitting on it for a year I decided to keep the 200 that came with the boat (carb 2.5) warm it over a little and build as I go. The heads are milled .045. I added solid mounts, cleaned up the reed cages and put in Boyeson 2 stage reeds. I know I know tuners don't do much without porting and velocity stacks probably don't do much either but I relieved the exhaust a bit and opened the ports old mod VP style on the lower unit pitching the can. I always run 93 octane fuel and Amsoil and read the plugs for jetting. I have a 23 chopper and just got a 22 Power Tech 4 blade OFX that a couple of guys are running with some success down here to experiment with. Will probably get a Hoss after I rebuild the engine or find a good 300. So, what transom height seems to work best on this boat. Also installed a Bob's nose cone. Any thoughts are welcome and thanks.

My 87' velocity did 70 with a warmed up 2.5. 5.5" CMC jackplate, coned lower (slowin me down), with a 24 small ear chopper, lots of tip cup. About 1" above pad.
Probably do about the same with a stock 200 and stock lower. If it's a Steve stepp model it'll be faster

I have been working with an 87 and a 94 Merc 200 that was barely used. This season we went to solid motor mounts, Boyeson reeds with a massaging of the reed cages, offshore exhaust tuner and cut the exhaust above water. Heads milled .045, timing 24 degrees and a Bob's nose cone that I have installed many in the 80s when I raced. 4" setback. we had difficulty carrying the nose till I tested a Powertech OFX 4 blade at 22". Running Amsoil 100:1 and VP octane booster I was able to pull 74 at 6500 in ideal conditions. The prop works wonderfully.

My 85 with a 200 would run mid 70’s with a 24 chopper level with pad

What gear ratio and how high is the engine, is it on a jack?? Also what are you looking to do? The more info the better if your looking for help. Tell us what you have on it now and what its doing for speed at 5000 and 6200. What 300 is it? I'm assuming a 300XS? I'm sure if you fill in the blanks you'll get plenty of response here.

I have a 220 velocity cuddy cabin.. I don't ever use the cabin and the interior is getting pretty aged..I'm thinking about gutting it and closing it up..does the floor in the cabin act as a support? Or if i pull it up and add another bulkhead will that be enough? Thanks
