Well its good that you found that soft spot before you took it out with the V6. It would be a shame for that thing to get wrecked

Just wondering:
Did you decide to go for the re-core or patch job?

Not yet, but i'm getting close. I wanted to make sure the garage was situated before I get down to making a mess. Completely insulated, drywalled, and painted walls and ceiling and 40k BTU ventless installed. Just finished building a 7ft workbench and have a new compressor on the way as we speak. Soooooo.....within the next week I'll get the extra 4 bunks added to the trailer and get after it. Thanks for caring I appreciate the hookup when Midge and I were down there, had a great time with you two....we'll do it again over X-mas when we head back that way. And for those who haven't seen Quinten's Voyager, it turned out great!!! Very very clean!
CC - I'm really thinking I'm just gonna cut it all, get it right, document it, so when and if I ever decide to sell it, the buyer will know what he/she/it is buying. More to come in the not so distant future......

Finally got the opportunity to start some cutting today to see where I'm at. After 20 minutes or so of cutting and grinding, I've got a nice haze going in the garage and the girlfriend decided to share with me that I had stunk up the house with fiberglass and sawdust.....to which my reply was, " Wait till I start laying down new mat and resin!!!" I was left alone for the remainder of my time in the garage..LoL. And this is the result......
^^^^Decided to remove a section of floor behind the seatbox to see what the pad core looked like
^^^^ Piece on the left is the wood floor section from the bilge area up to the seatbox. Note the marks from the stringers which were actually bonded to the floor. The piece on the right is a section of 'glass mat that covered the wood floor which came up in one piece with very little effort.
^^^^ First peek at what was underneath the floor...didn't look bad at first glance....
^^^^ Then I noticed some moisture around the bilge and some more outside the stringers.
^^^^ I couldn't believe this when I pulled the floor up and noticed where the drainback holes were positioned. In the small bulkhead in front of the bilge there was a hole drilled there but it was a good inch or so off the bottom...not so great for letting water out. If you look at the stringers, they are notched on the TOP instead of the bottom which would allow, once again, a good inch of water to develop before it drained out into the bilge well.
^^^^A shot from the stern at the seatbox. As I moved forward I found less and less bad core but there are still a few spots right at the top left and right corners of my cut that have a little soft spot or two...so the seatbox and remainder of the floor come out next.
I'll have some more time to get the seatbox and remainder of the floor out tuesday so stay tuned.1976 Hydrostream Viper - 2.5 EFI

you might
want to consider removing those mint coaming pads before they get damaged during the recore...it's tough to get that vinyl pattern done anymore.

Nice neat Job! Good idea to remove the coaming pads, but it may be difficult. The unplated carriage bolts on my boat had to be sawn off.
I left that bulkhead out altogether, air can easily flow from front to back. Even when I do get water in the boat it dries out really quick.
I also added several extra layers of glass for about 2 feet ahead of the drain, where water would sit. This was on John Speath's advice.
