He has already asked what Bob's modified 2.4 would do. That thing would turn 8000 on the Viper. But let's not talk about it and maybe he won't get divorced before they are even married.

Same as mine Jeffy, exactly. Frustration with chine walk and porpoising until I started to go up up up. Now I have virtually none of either.

If I buy another motor, I forsee that $1900 window treatment shes been wanting mysteriously appear in the living room... And THAT gents, is how we compromise in my house.

I did learn a valuable lesson last night....2 bumps on the down button before rolling out of it is a real good idea. Bow started to kite on me the first time I got out of it and I'm not so sure the trim didn't trail out on me...yes its a triple ram. Thoughts????

First thought is there will be more lessons along the way

A lot of people trim down before they back out, could be the motor kicking up, or could be the old back of the boat don't slow down as fast as the front. Many will kick out the tail anyway (unless you own a Ventura) when you pull the throttle hard. Probably bumping down the trim is a good habit to get in anyway.

I assume by "pull the throttle hard" you mean lift quickly....which I never do or did...the boat really didnt like it with the V4...so consider that a lesson learned long before now. I always lift slow but it's a real unsettling feeling rolling out of the gas and the bow just keeps climbing until you scrub off 6-8 mph.

Kiting like that is usually associated with backing off too hard. Forward thrust helps hold the nose down, when you reduce it, the prop is still providing a lot of lift, and the hull is still creating a lot of aerodynamic lift, so the tendency is for the nose to rise. When backing off slowly, the nose will usually hang, but should not rise. The motor could be kicking up and causing it, or you may need to fiddle with balance some more. That DAH prop is probably giving you more lift than a stock chopper.

    Jeff,
Sounds like its coming around good. I am 1.25" above pad with 5.5" of set back. Get the big motor and buy your women the window treatments LOL, mine threatened to buy horses. I told her go ahead I heard they are tastey. Hope to make Kosh, going to Fairmont this weekend to help represent the Hydrostream guys.
    Good Luck Jerry

    Well Pete,
I'm not beyond saying it was driver error......in fact it probably was. The last run I bumped down once and lifted enough to drop 100 or so RPM....rinse and repeat 2 or 3 times until I slipped back under 70-ish and it was much better than the several previous attempts to reeling it back in. It could very well be a combination of new setup and me being a relative rookie. I didn't have anyone close enough to get a good look at the hull attitude as a reference so who knows, maybe I'm imagining some of it. We'll find out @ Kosh as I'll have a handful of different props to try out.

Something I failed to mention is that this prop I have was purchased from Mike Tyler (CoronaMike) and he felt it had too much bow lift for his GS. It was inexpensive and the right diameter and pitch I wanted to start at so that probably plays into the equation quite a bit I'd imagine.
