Just ordered a 2009 E TEC 200.....need jack-plate/trim tab help
Thanks everyone who helped with this decision.
I have ordered today a 2009 ETEC 200 hp 25-inch in white.
Motor is going on a 1985 Boston Whaler Outrage 18.
Hull weighs between 1250-1500 lbs dry.
The old 2004 150 YAMI shown is turning 47mph on the GPS.
I saw Bob's machine Shop's motorized jack-plates and of course i want one to go with the new ETEC
it weighs 40lbs
I have never used a jack-plate, water pressure gauge or trim tabs on this hull.
Please give me your advice/recommendations....my main goal is TOP-END SPEED
thanks in advance to everybody!!
Ian

Excellent decision on the 200hp over the 175....With the price of the 200 you are getting the most power out of the legendary 2.6liter power head.....Keep us up to date of the pics and testing.....

OK Mate, This is where the E-Tec Owners support kicks in,
Your motor will have the latest M2 gearcase with 2 sets of water intakes. If you want to jack your motor up to the sky their are optional water intake screens available. See chart below this one.
If you want E-Tec specific help Go Here >> http://forums.etecownersgroup.com/mb/barnaclebill

3 year "NON DECLINABLE" Warranty, so EVERYTHING that is warrranted on day 1 is WARRANTED on day 1095. Very unusual for Outboard Manufacturers these days.
Just understand that the 25" Shaft model has a slightly lower gear ratio to the 20" model. .5376 as against .541. More designed for the BIG boats.

hello ultra, back in the day I had an 18 outrage with a 235, on a jackplate, and ran the boat for about a year.
twice i hooked it and got thrown out...good thing i was wearing the cut off lanyard. both times
i got low 60's with it, but running the motor high, and trying to turn at high speeds, woke me up those 2 times,
so get time behind the wheel.and beware of....mr hook
another couple of times the front anchor locker hatch bounced out of place and when the wind caught it it came by the console rail, and just missed me....i put hinges on it after the 2nd time
I gotta tell you I really liked that outrage, used it in miami, and ran from 79th street to the tiki bar many times.
whenever one of my rides, spanked me for the 3rd time i would sell it...and then miss it, .
my next boat was a sanger alley cat 20, with a gt 200 johnson.
it would hook bad at low speeds, and some guys on a jet ski cut me off in the uleta river one day and i ran under some mangroves and got stuck, in the arm, and got blood poisining...i did not hold that against the sanger, but when I barrel rolled it at 70,...i sold it too
that 18 outrage is a nice ride.......
and my e-tec brother....i'm running a small block 200 on my allison river racer...and since 1991, when i got the alli...it hasen't bitten me....yet, after having about 6 different engines on it.
But when I run...i'm aware and respectful...every time!

If you wanted to go fast, you ordered an Evinrude? You'll be lucky to get 55, with or without jackplate.

Im Nobody, But It Sounds To Me Like Deep Down You Should Consider A Faster Hull

On my heavy ass bass barge, mine will get right at 4.5mpg at cruising speeds. I've had Optis on my Tritons (250ProXS) and my Etec, and really don't notice any appreciable difference in the fuel mileage. Where you will see a difference is the oil economy. The Etec will use less oil than the Opti, even with the increased oil settings and extra oi distribution manifold on the 08+ big block Etecs.

big bore, i don't remember how i found ...scream and fly!
but all my boats have given me memories, and some wounds.
before the 18 outrage, i had a 15 whaler with a 70 omc...juiced a bit, and i ran a 23 sst rx...silverstreak on that 70, and it would pull 6000.
the little whaler would lift, and the spray would clear the tri hull sponsons, but on the 18 outrage, running the 235 high enough to get rpm, if you turned at speed it would hook big time.
I worked at whaler dealers for 10 years, and really like the older ones.
I have no complaints with my e-tec 200 small block and recommend them and it pushes my alli rr just fine
