I had one that we made when I was 9 years old it was layed up with one layer of ounce and a half mat, had no foam in the sponsons, and the transon was swiss cheesed under a 1/4" ply on both sides to hide it, the boat was around 50lbs and had a 9.9 johnson with a 15hp carb on it, while testing it I almost blew over on me, stood straight up then tapped twice and came down at approx 40 mph on a keller speedo, talk about ass pucker, I went out with this setup in sanford and walked a boat with a 20 mariner on it during test laps and got scolded by my dad to hold back some and only beat the ones in my class, I had some fun times in flivers, we had one in an old popular mechanics article and got calls on the article for 10-15 years later for people wanting us to build them one, Matt

Fun project I am sure. Love the cab over one.
Like many people on here I am a lifelong boater. When it comes to putting way too much motor on way too little boat I have seen it done many times and the result is always the same.....poor performance. I have a 15 ft. pad V hull boat with a stock 30 Johnson, runs 40 mph. Finding the right set up on boat that appears to be underpowered always gives more bang for the buck than the other way around.1970 15' Allison/135 Chrysler stacker

I just went for the first real test run on the Fliv with the Hot-su 50 (bone stock). It has a 11x25" four blade thru hub cleaver that was originally from a Dux boat on it.
The transom isn't tall enough to raise the motor as high at it needs to be for this prop, it's currently set with the vent. plate level with the top of the tunnel. The hole shot wasn't great as the prop is a little to much but the instant it got a little air down to it it was ridiculous! It was scary at that point.
I used an app on my phone that uses GPS and google maps to track your track, speed and a whole bunch more stuff. Here's the link to my test run. http://www.sportstracklive.com/track...1/maxSpeed10s0
It was just under 46mph, a little slower than I was hoping for. It laid flat on the water and was really controllable.
The Yami 30 will be back on it for this weekend and until I have more time to test and tune the Hot-su.

Here’s my rebuilt Flivver. I gutted it, coosa transom, corecell cored running surface & deck, okoume benches. Still need to fair and paint.
had run it with my 6hp kicker, then found a Tohatsu 40. Far from set up right, looking for an appropriate prop. Launches like crazy with 11” pitch!

One Glaring Problem With Flivvers
One thing I have noticed in all the stories and photos posted about Flivvers is that NOBODY is running with a KILL SWTCH LANYARD. Kill switch lanyards are a mandatory USCG national requirement beginning in 2022 regardless of boat length and hp.
I'm surprised that the paddle boat and kayak makers didn't adapt a Flivver mold for ABS? (speed production). It's no wonder that Flivvers are not made and sold today with the liability laws we have. If somebody is still making them somewhere they are probably bought and sold like ghost guns.

I generally don’t wear the lanyard while flushing the motor on my dock. Otherwise I do. And a jacket.
CraigCat is pretty close to an ABS Flivver.78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD

those pics are not a original fliver. the real flyin filvers were red. made in early 1960s. rounded sponsons, little wings an theback. they were bought by hurst, and sponsons flatened and foam filled. bad idea. also they dropped [flyin] from the real logo. rec. hp was 7.5. the real ones had wooden floor board, tunnel was paper thin glass. saw one run with a merc hurricane 16, home made string steer, fast little tub.
