super chiller linked with supercharger??
Anyone have any advice for a superchiller?? Brand luck or no luck. Is it worth the $1650.00?? Will I gain the 75-100 hp they say?? My motor is a blown 468 with a 8-71 Dyers supercharger, what kind of HP will I get when I am all said and done?? Roughly??
Thanks in advance!!

anytime you compress air you make heat. heat kills power and makes pre-ignition more likely. water cooled intercooler works great on boat because of the endless supply of cool water.cool dense air charge---lotsa power.

depends. if you're only running 6-8 psi of boost, it won't help that much. if you're running 12-16, i'd say go for it, you'll be able to either run a couple more psi, or advance the timing a little bit at your current boost level.
Boost free, for now...

Teague Marine Inter-coolers are about the best. There are cheaper versions.
The best place to start looking is CP Performance, http://cpperformance.com/ or Harden Marine, http://hardin-marine.com/ .
The higher the boost the better they work for you but you only want the water going through them when you are above idle speeds or it creats a problem with the air/fuel mixture called "puddling" in the intake runners.
A less expensive rought would be Alcohol injection. This adds a little more power for the lower boost applications 4-8psi and drops the boosted temps dramaticly while raising the octaine level of the air/fuel ratio. Cool-mist, www.coolingmist.com .
Alcohol is comparitivly chep and you wont use near as much as you think. I see temps drop as much as 35 degrees in the intake on a hot summer day.
I run both intercooler and alcohol injection with 14lbs of boost on pump gas.
Blower Drive Services websight has alot of very good information on super charging. http://www.blowerdriveservice.com/ also www.fuelairspark.com/ Hope this helps.

It is possible but u will need a JG style pump with all the upgrades and keep the boat light.
If you are running a GM block the most HP you will be able to susstain and keep the block from twisting will be around 900 hp. 800 hp with a well preped boat and pump running a AA impeller turning it 6000 rpms should get you into the 80s.

80 mph ??
The boat is a 1987 Advantage open bow. Motor 468 supercharged 8-71 with intercooler, lightning exhaust, calies crank, 8:5-1 compression, roller rockers, Stainless Steel impeller drop snoot. Weight of the boat is heavier than the usual becauese of the open bow, but hopefully I can get what I want with the set up that is being done!!!!!!1

christ on a crutch. with proper fuel management, that super chiller, and methanol injection, you could run 20+ psi on that motor (assuming it's forged). sell the blower and slap a couple turbos on it. you won't regret it. a pair of these would do nicely with that much displacement. holset HX40. made for diesels, so it can stand a lot of boost, all the time, under load, all the time. plus, they're pretty cheap, and dirt cheap to rebuild. my buddy had an HX35 on his srt. 2.4 liters, and it'd spool at about 5 grand. just some simple math, but at 468 cubes, depending on heads and cam, you should spool two of those with a .82 a/r on the hotside around 3500-4000 rpm. which is fine, because you're wanting to turn a AA impeller at 6k. plenty of power. at 20 psi, you'd be making in the neighborhood of 1500 hp at the crank. anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right? oh, and if you fuel inject it, you won't have to worry about the fuel puddling due to a chilled intake charge.

Nothing sounds as good as a turbo engine!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fearless, What manifold does HX40 bolt to, or are u custom fabricating the adaptor.
I have 3 big blocks ready to build-up. one I am looking at a sequintual turbo system.
We work on alot of diesels and seeing some wild setups from the factory with sequintual turbo-charging.

hey dragn, the hx40 is a T4 frame turbo. just call up banks (the diesel guys) and tell them what type of motor it'll be on. i know they have cast manifolds for chevys availible. i'd assume they have some other small block manifolds. just search around on the net. post up and remind me, and i'll see if i can find some big block stuff for you. also, do you know what a sequential turbo setup is? alright, glossary time, just so we're all on the same page.
Parallel turbos: two turbos, same size, one motor. spools quicker and provides better mid range than a single large turbo
Sequential turbos: common oem setup, where you have a small turbo and a large turbo. the little one spools early, gives you some low end punch, then a valve in the manifold opens up a passage to the big one at higher rpms. then you have the big turbo for your topend. the MK4 supra, 3000gt vr4, and fd3s RX7 (3rd generation) were all sequential turbo. anyone who wants to make power with a sequential setup usually ditches it for a big single.
compound turbos: this one's just for the diesel guys. two different sized turbos, one blows into the exhaust side of the other, and the second turbo, motivatied by the boost pressure of the first, generates even more boost pressure. compound setups can make 150 psi, possibly more. diesel dragsters tend to run compound turbos. hell, performance diesels in general.
k, now that we're on the same page, i'd say with a V motor (v6, v8, v10, v12, whatever) use a pair of turbos. if you want a single turbo instead of duals, you'll need to get a big one (for a big block). i was thinking about an interesting setup the other day. get a cam ground to reverse airflow. basically open the intake valve when the exhaust should be open, open the exhaust when the intake should be open. then use an efi setup with dual throttle bodies. your turbo would mount in the "V" of the motor, right on top, down to an intercooler with 2 outlets, into the intake manifolds on the side of the motor. all the heat from the exhaust is up on top of the motor, rather than heating up everything, plus, shorter path to the turbo, so more energy can be imparted on the turbine wheel. lol, don't get me talking turbos bro, we don't have THAT kind of time :lol:Last edited by Fearless; 09-18-2008 at 11:17 AM.
