Anyone use a Hynautic Ram with Sea Star Helm?
Have a Sea Star Helm and Merc Ram that came with the boat. The Ram won't work on OMC.
Bought a OMC V8 OB that came with a complete Hynautic system. I'd like to use the Hynautic cylinder with the Seastar Helm. To me a hydraulic cylinder is a hydraulic cylinder. They look to be roughly the same size/volume and both are a push/pull cylinder. On first glance it looks like it should work with no issues.
Anyone ever actually try this?

it will work as long as one is not required to be balanced and it is not.
ex- a seastar pro helm requires a balanced cylinder.current rides-

Well, I heer'd a lot about tha balanced system stuff, and never figger'd out what tha differnce iz....So, I tore up tha geerbox on my cub tractor, and couldn't buy what I need'd to fix it...It'a a 1952 tractor....Soooo, I put a sea star helm, wit a hynautik ram on it!!!....I don't see any problems with it, and it should work just az good on an OB az it does on this tractor...U do a lot more turn'in with tha tractor while cutt'in grass, than a week on tha river wit tha OB.....Like I said, it's only a tractor, but the combonation works great for me!!

I run a Sea Star Pro helm with a Mercury ram. The only problem is the "wing" plates on the Mercury ram are much longer than a Sea Star Pro ram and flex a bit...makes it harder to handle at 70+mph...I plan to swap out the ram for a Sea Star Pro "Allison" ram next time I get a spare $600.oo!! (with this economy, that could be a long time!)

Sea star pro helm & hynactic ram
I have been running this setup in all my speed boats for many years i actually perfer the hynactic ram over the seastar with the pro helm it seams to be alot more solid and has way less play or movement in it than the seastar ram does. Dave

Same here, hynautic ram with sea star pro helm, no play, very tight. I did notice the sea star pro helm with a sea star ram doesn't let the steering wheel return to the same spot (straight) after each turn causing the use of 3 trim buttons on the wheel. The hynautic cylinder returns to the center every time.
T-Rex, I had to install hydraulic steering on my lawn mower after a quote of $600 to replace the factory gear box with only 3 years use. I bought parts off ebay for a total of $160 for helm (with soft wheel), ram, and hoses, and will probably outlast the mower, lol...
