    Hydro Stream Vegas, good prop

    Hi,
I'm new here, and hope to find some help propping my new toy.

2007 Hydrostream Vegas (XP) Merc Racing Optimax 250 Torque Master (1.75 ratio, I think).

I first tried a 25 Tempest Plus, because I had it (all plugs removed) Only got about 60mph at 6300 rpm. That seems like alot of slippage with the jack down. Water pressure was low, 10 psi.

I had plenty of throttle left, and from 55mph I could throttle up and It will jump to 8k + quickly. Only me in the boat, Fuel tank up front.

    I was considering a Bravo 1 (vented) 28" , or a trophy plus 28".

    What do you guys think?

Was I seeing slippage due to the vent plugs out?

    Thanks for your help!

    or the trophy plus 28p

    I run a 24p trophy plus on my stream with a xr4 150 at 5500rpm 70mph "GPS"

Mazco RE-3 or RE-4 in 28-30 pitch and that Hydrostream will haul ass, sounds like the motor is to deep in the water, where are you running it in respect to the center pad.Make sure you have a water pressure gauge if you start messing with the height.

    Vegas Good Prop

    Thanks,
With the jack down, the cavitation plate is about 3" above the pad.
I think the jack is about 4" back, and the boat has about 6" built in.
    What height do you suggest?
I have a water pressure gauge, and rarely see it over 10 or 12 psi.
    Any suggestions there?

Is this an XS motor? I have never herd of a merc racin opti turning anything over the limiter

send that torque master to titus and have him work his magic (nosecone low water pickup) this is prolly worth 10+mph..

theres a vegas in the forsale forms with a 250xs running 97mph check out his setup

NICE RIG!!! post some pictures if you have them..

Motor height is measured by comparing the centerline of the propshaft to the hull's pad with neutral level trim. It sounds like your propshaft is 5" below the pad, which is WAY too low unless you're using it only for water skiing.

If you want to see 90+ MPH, you'll need a nosecone/low water pickup as Kevin suggested, and the propshaft will likely need to be EVEN with the pad, or higher.

Also, your tach is probably set wrong. Your motor should have a 6000 RPM limiter. If the 25p Trophy was indeed turning 6000 rpm, you would be in the 65-70 mph range with 1.75 gears. Check the little dial on the back of your tach.

    Hydrostream Vegas Prop

    Thanks guys!

I'll check the dial on the tach. It has Livorsi gauges, if it matters. I have run big EFIs for years on offshore rigs and this Opti does sound like it's running over the limiter compared to how the EFIs sound. This is my first Optimax though.

I did run it yesterday, and with some practice did get a little better performance.

I'll check out the rig for sale too!

    Thanks again for your advise.
