My 23' 77 Jet Boat Project...

Many questions and updates to come. Just got her home yesterday and i have taken out all the interior and will start redoing the paint and interior this weekend, as well as rebuilding the back of the engine cover box.

    Stay tuned...

    Day 1's progress...

Everything seems to be good with the motor, I put in a new battery and put new cable ends on, and then she fired right up and sounded very good, but seems to idle too high.

Does anyone have a good suggestion on changing the oil? The oil in it right now seems okay, but I can't figure out how to drain the oil pan without actually taking the motor out.

Am I missing something on the motor, or do you have to pump the oil out?

How do you change the oil?

    Thanks for any input.

It says it's a "WEIRDT" on the side and the title, I've never heard of it before.

I have always loved jet boats but I have never been too big on the motor being right next to you blasting your ears off while sitting inches away from moving engine parts.
I love the way jet boats handle and they're a ton of fun.

I have always wanted a boat with a cuddy and I think the day cruisers have a nice look to them.

I'm going to make a cockpit in the bow of this boat big enough for two people to sit side by side, with access from it from the cuddy or the deck either way.

    ***Correction***

It says "WRIEDT" on the boat, (it's very worn off and faded barely readable) and on the title it says " WEIRDT".

Seemed like a very slow day today, didn't seem to get even half done of what I started out to do.

I made this bulkhead out of marine 3/4" ply and I slicked finished the edges by mixing bondo, hardener and M.E.K. into a plastic cup then brushing all the edges, then when it dried I sanded the edges to 600 grit.

I primed all sides (2 coats) and then painted it with exterior acrylic paint (2 coats), then screwed and glued ( garilla glue) the bulkhead to the floor.

I figure this should stay solid and when it's dry I will caulk all the parts on the floor with a mold proof, water resistant caulking before I put one more coat of paint on.

Back to work tomorrow, that sux but after work back to my real job!!!

    Cheers...

    Busy, busy weekend...

After finding water in my cuddy, I spent all day saturday tearing out the floor and foam underneath.

All fixed after a long and grusome demo proccess.

Time to put down the Teak wood floor, back later with updates!!!

    Cheers!!!

Wooooohoooooo, after a cuddy cabin setback, I'm back on track with getting the interior put back together and hopefully the upholstery will be ready this time next week.

Still have to redo the stereo system and get the bimini top in and put on. I'll be pushing it close to get her on the lake for the 4th, but I won't stop until she's ready!!!

    Cheers Gents !!!!

Thanks for the props!!! I have always wanted to have a boat with Teak wood in it, and I figured with this Teak floor and Teak accents on the swimboard and instrument panel, it will look real nice.

Wow nice progress! 4 weeks ago I pulled my 455 out of an orange and white Wredit just like that! the upolstry was all shot to hell but it would have been a cool project! I would have kept the boat but it needed too much work! The idiot drilled 2 holes under the bow to drain the rain water out! fortunately for me he gave up a complete package runningfor $100.00!
