v-drive vs. jet-drive questions
I recently read that you can get more acceleration from a jet but more top speed from a v-drive is this true? If this isnīt true then if I have a pump done right, with the jet-o-vator, the droop snoot, and the high performance intake, how much less performance will I have than a v-drive given that all else is equal? Aslo is there anything else you can do to get more power out of a pump, and what is the best kind of pump? Which is more economical? What are any other pros and cons of each? Thanks, and if you have explanations for the answers please explain.

jet modification
What pump are you running ? Many people do the 4fourbolt jet mod. its alot of work but really hepls with slip and overall performance. It seems to give the biggest gains with the mod vp daytona style hull. What type of hull do you have ?

hull
thanks for the welcome. iīm considering a tunnel hull or a pickelfork. i donīt know which one is better. if i go with a v-drive i would just get a flat bottom. what is this 4 bolt mod? iīve never heard of it. and why does the hull matter?

hulls
A pickelfork style jet " mod vp tunnel" hull will have alot nicer ride, and be more versitile.
The flat bottom V drives are quik, but they only do smooth water, and they have very little interior room.2005 TRIAD STV EURO

outboards
it seems that 300 hp on an outboard goes farther than 300 hp on an inboard and i would get even more interior room is this true?

hulls
The hull is really the most important part of a speed boat. Pickelfork is a slang term for a mod v-pad. A mod vp has two tunnels. One down each side, and a pad down the center.

fast !!
Correct. A jet will need between 800-1000 hp to keep up with me. A 100 mph jet boat is rare to run into out on a lake. 1000 hp car motors with blowers are really tempermental, and really dont go boating for more than a few runs.
I attached a picture of the 4boltmod. I put some red lines around it.
Yes, the outboard is the way to go. Most mph and fun per $.2005 TRIAD STV EURO

jet
a jet with 300 hp would do about 50 mph.

What about mine ?
I've had several tunnel hull jets and now a tunnel hull v drive.
A light weight tunnel hull jet with 1000 hp can really accellerate hard and run near 125 mph with a well tuned setup. Look through here,
http://www.performanceboats.com/html...splay.php?f=33
and here,
http://www.hotboat.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14
Setup is critical to make it run hard.
The jet I had could accelerate at 21 mph / sec in the mid range.
Very few outboards can match that without nitrous.
I took the same twin turbo motor that was in the jet boat and put it in this 21' Daytona v drive and found the true meaning of scary fast performance.
Vdrive tunnels are rare boats. If you can find one jump on it real fast.
The rough water handling is just great.
I personally would not own a flatbottom or a hydro, they perform well but cant take rough water at all. You'll be on the trailer all the time.

TX-20 tunnel very fast well built and a stock 502 chevy set up right will go 85 mph!!
they ride very well and Jim is a great man to deal with and builds one bad ass boat!!!
I have one 4 sale with a stroker big block chevy and let me tell ya has no blower and only one carb and will get ya to a 100 very quick!!!!
ran a buddy in a stv 300 drag,0 to 100 not a chance, but he comes back on top end!!!
the right jet set up well is a quick boat and alot of fun to drive.
done the flat bottom thing 3 times, they are no good 4 anything but wide open drag race, ride like crap and hop like a rabbit unless u wide open!!!
good luck and be sure to check the Warhawks out!!!

boating style
If your looking to go fast, be out boating all day, and have interior room, then an outboard is the way to go. You can have a stock motor with a factory warranty and have a 80-100+ mph boat. Maybe a Eliminator Daytona, STV Euro, or Alison
