    1994 2.5carb vs 2002 200xs

I have x2 1994 2.5 carb motors on my 22 talon right now and was toying with the idea of changing them to x2 2002 200xs motors. I know there alot better on gas but i want to know what the performance difference is between the 2, i dont want to lose alot of speed to save a bit in gas.

The 200XS is a stout 200hp engine, whereas the 2.5 liter carburated 200 was not very strong from what I can remember from B&WB's shoot-out. You have more to win than to lose.

the 200xs is a little better in low end torque and has a little more speed than a 200efi on the smae boat. i have the 200xs and my son has the 200efi both on voyagers. i have a little quicker hole shot with an 1" higher prop. i get 1-3mph faster then he can using the same prop.

since you have 245 a would suggest looking at the 2.5xs. same block as the 200xs but on a 3.0 mid. its rated at 225 but i believe that very convertive. look at the S&F articles and you can see the write up they did on a stv type boat. 105 with 4 adults on board.

there is also a thread on that atricale where some of us questioned the low end torque [ which was very good]. i believe you'll see close to the same fuel economy as the 200xs and not have to give up the preformance your getting from the 245s.
