Do I need to replace the foam/1980 Baja

I just removed the floor from my 1980 Baja and noticed the stringers were also rotted. The foam between the stringer was soaked with water even thou its been stored inside for the last 6 months. Do I need to replace the foam? I dont see how water can get to the back of the boat with the foam installed? I'm not sure if the foam adds support to my boat since the fiberglass on the bottom of the boat is very thin.

if the boat is thin like you say it is- then put foam back.
Dry foam does not weight anything so it wont do any harm putting
    good foam back.

i would think the foam is just for flotation. its just in the center of the boat. if it was for structure wouldnt it go all the way to the transom under the floor?

That might be a cored hull. Check the transom for rot too

Kinda looks like balsa to me, I think I can see the squares. Hard to tell from a picture, but there are no squares of different shades in fiberglass cloth or mat. If you see squares, there is core. Good luck!

I'm gonna have to say welcome to the club.. see where the pretty brownish turns to black, tap on the brown with a butt of a screwdriver, then tap on the black, notice a difference in the sound.

The area where it turns from brown to black is just grease. The foam was covered with grease as well.

IMHO,screw the foam,it's only for floatation[and waterlogging],add composite stringers if you need more stability!Nice looking ride!
    why ask me ?
