Fastlane Id stick with a 40hp or below. These mini hawks don't carry weight well in the stern. God for bid you break down, you know how snotty the bay can get, that thing will sink in a heartbeat if you take a wave or two over the transom. Specially if you plan on having 2 people in the boat often.
put the gas tank in the bow and get a manual jackplate with minimal setback. then start testing, like harry said, be patient, and keep your eyes open you'll find something you can afford... Hopefully black13' Bullet 60 Merc

Nice dreams there is absolutely no difference in 45ci OMC motors 40-65 hp
the next smallest OMC is the 18-35 hp and they weigh about 40 pounds less
In all honesty for small motors and going fast there is no other brand to considerLast edited by gotboostedvr6; 05-09-2008 at 11:24 AM.

My rig-
1984 "Kaama Edition" Mini Hawk Race Boat. Betty Cook did own this one and Ken from Mini Powerboats inc tells me its very rare.I have a 500CCA battery under the deck and a 3.5 gallpn gas tank in the rear compart ment. The motor is a 3cylinder 25 Merc that has an exaust leak under the power head. When I take the cover off it has tons more power becasue its getting clean air. Anyway, with the cover on the boat will just touch 40. Brett at Bblades has done a ton of chit to my prop and I have 5.5 CMC Setback/hydraulic trim. She is built like a brick house and Ive run it through a 2-3 foot chop flying nice n level. Also has a small hook Im going to fix this winter. With 2 people in the boat its lucky to break 35mph. Full interior as well.Johnny Saris
