The Sonic Chronicles
As a lot of you know I bought my 2nd 24' twin O/B Sonic a few mnths ago.
I got screwed on the deal (another subject for another thread) and it needs way more work than advertised.
The first issue I tackled was rotted fuel lins, a fuel tank (and filters) full of scum and horrible wiring and rigging.
I pulled the floor up so I could remove the tank to clean and re-plumb it.
I reintalled it and foamed it in with 2 part foam and then glued the floor down which was not done from the factory.
The boat has a inner liner (HATE THEM!) and a molded in pocket for the fuel tank which was full of water and water logged foam due to it not having any drains
I put three 1" holes in the bottom of that pocket (liner) so it would drain to the bilge.
What I did'nt plan for was the foam while still in liquid form to run through those holes and into the bilge.
3 steps forward, one back.
Had to think on that one a while...........let's see...the floor is 63" front to rear so since I only need to drill 1/2 way from both sides that means I only need a 31 1/2" drill bit
Some time it pays to be a hill billy.

The cabin in this one did not even have a drain like my old one did so I put one in and ran through the foam as far as I could that way and then from the bilge behind the tank.

Some..
(besides $4. per gas??)
Had boat back together and after playing with props a bit I saw 68 GPS while still chasing motor gremilns.
I have learned that the fuel pumps on the motors have resivoirs with filters that are probably partially clogged.
Runs for a few mins and shuts down.
The good though is that it ran long enough and fast enough to remind me of one of the things (besides size of cabin) I love about this boat and that is how it runs.
From about 60 up it feels very light and is a handfull to drive (which I love).
With it having a round keel it feels like you're working the wheel to keep the boat on a pad it does not have.
I have the materials to build a sun lounge and install transom knees and that will happen as soon as I work through my severe case of burn out
Once completed I will raise the motors 3", try some more props and look for mid 70's.
GaryI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

06-27-2008, 05:07 PM #15Had an identical boat before this one with '99 250 JohnRudes that ran 80 dead on
I was in Florida for a couple of weeks this past March. Stayed in Fort Lauderdale, then Melbourne. I took a right along A1A up to Sebastion Inlet. It's beautiful there.
Next winter I may hit you up for a boat ride when I'm down there.David
