    Offshore Racing

I know I'm beating a dead horse here but I have to say that the Saint Cloud race was the worst gathering of boats I have ever seen. I have always loved the sport, been to many races all over the state of Florida, planned my vacation around most of them, but man this was sad!!!!!! If it wasn't for good friends and family out yesterday it would have been just another weekend on the water. Its a shame that ego's and money have run this sport into the ground.

    St Cloud

The St Cloud Rotary was responsible for the poor turn-out, tell them!
Sad situation, no advertising, no web site, huge failure! They turned away a few boats.

Don't know how much I believe this. They also run the fishing tournament on Saturday and there were 60 boats signed up for that. Also, does SBI have no responsibility in the turnout???? Not saying that absolves the Rotary from any responsibility they may have, but come on... there were 9 boats that started the race yesterday. Plus, from what I was told the only boats in the parade were local "non-race" boats.

Believe what you want, we've met, Jan 1 when we had our Pantera.

The fee was paid to the Rotary to race not SBI. The racers got no SBI points for this race, being a divisional race....

A few racers wanted their own tent, and to purchase 50-100 passes,
the Rotary named an exorbitant price, and said they didn't need the racers anyway.

I think it's crying shame, and it effected the bottom line of the Rotary's charities....

Only canopy boats went to Biloxi. There are alot of "P" boats that did not race in St Cloud.

It's just ashame. If the attitude of the Rotary is "we don't need the race boats" then they shouldn't even attempt it. Is it lack of planning?? Lack of experience in the Rotary? This used to be a great event. Years ago, there used to be 30+ boats at the event with 2 heats of races. Last year wasn't too bad, but the year prior was just like this year.

Sure would be nice to have a good turnout for future races.

What the hell does the rotary know about racing????? Doesn't matter who is in charge, from the spectator's view its a bad turn out. Does anyone care about the fans?????????They lost me as a fan. Someone take responsibity.

    Too Bad.

little off subject here but I posted on the "racing in Fla" thread about the potential that my town of Sebastian has for hosting a race.
Just read in my new Propeller magazine that they are hosting a PWC race here this weekend.
I am going to check it out as that would be a huge leap in the right direction for putting on a race/rally hereas it's never been done to my knowledge.

The town has a gorgeous park right on the water and has an event there almost every weekend and has been spending a bunch of their money in support.
Also several water front establishments that would be prime candidates for sponsorship proposals.

I'm not ready to "do it" but I am ready to start asking questions and getting names.

Have any of you guys paid attention to the P1 racing overseas? I am helping with some changes on the fountain that was King of Shaves last year. They won the championship last year. From what I have seen, the P1 organization has there stuff together. You can go online to see the races live, plus they will have in boat camera views as well as telemetry data during the race. If the american organziations were smart they would be looking to get organzied like P1
