    Vdrive guys

Forgive me for my ignorance on how to set one of these boats up. It's my first one. Feel free to educate me.

A buddy of mine has an older flat bottom v-drive that he bought and he is trying to figure out how to set the plate on the back. I'd call it a "trim plate" but feel free to correct me. If you go to far one way it pulls the bow down big time and the boat is slow and if you go the other to far it will hop like crazy. What is the right way to set this? Is it always that fussy? It even acts totally different with one or 2 people onboard. Also, does someone make one that you can adjust (maybe with a pedal) while you drive like power trim on an outoard?

    Thanks,
    Steve

I tell ya takes alot of know how to set up a v-drive.
I have had 3 and they all hop like a rabbit.its like wide open or idle.
dont know what ya have but under 500 hp. try to set cavitation plate 2 deg. up from bottom.1 deg. might be right depends on what hull ya have and v-drive deg.I do know that Ron Brocksma (not sure spelling is right) is the best v-drive man i have ever talked to.give him a try. the man knows his stuff. WRONG SET UP WITH HIGH HP WILL HURT YA IN A V-DRIVE!!!!
    good luck and be carefull

I'll have to find out hull......prop?

I'll have to find out his make and model hull and go from there. The motor he had in it was only a 350 hp 396. He's putting in a solid lifter 427 with about just about 500 hp. We'll see how it goes with that in it. What's the best prop for a 500 hp rig that revs 6500-7000?

    Thanks,
    Steve
