Mercury/Navman tech no help
I want to install a Navman 2100 fuel flow gauge on my 1999 Mercury Optimax 225. The Navman fuel flow transducer must be spliced in the fuel line between the fuel tank and the motor. The transducer must also be installed after a fuel filter to protect the transducer from debri. The transducer is not made to be used on the pressure side of a DFI system and must be installed in the vertical position. The fuel filter/water seperator on the Optimax is built on the engine and there is no room to install the transducer after the motors filter.
My question is would it be ok to install another fuel/water filter(to protect the transducer) before the built in fuel/water filter on the motor? I know that the transducer will restrict my fuel flow some, but I don't want to cause too much of a fuel restriction with the added filter. I think the bigger the filter the less restriction in flow. What size filter would you use? Neither Navman or Mercury wants to put their neck on the line and tell what would be the recommended safe thing to do. Maybe a Mercury tech on this board could help get me the right answer.

check to see if the motor is smartcraft ready. there is a fuel usage function in that system[maybe too early].

Does anybody out there have a Optimax motor with Smartcraft gauges capable of reading fuel flow?? If so could you please take a picture of the location of the fuel flow transducer and post it here. Thanks

I have one installed on my motor and it's installed after the water/fuel separator and the motor. My readings are accurate.

What model Navman did you install? Any chance of you snapping me a photo of your install and posting it? Thanks

I'll get it as soon as I get back in on Monday. It was the F2100. There was a typo. It's installed between the fuel water separator and the motor (which has it's own filter).
