Don't know how many Jerry made before he past in 91?
The first Baker was my 85 with a 81 seven petal 225. It was a boat show boat and rigged with a 145 Rude. Very light layup.

2nd boat is Delbert Teague running this 86 Baker in its first and only Enduro. He barrel rolled it at well over 100mph when a rogue boat cut the course. According to Del, Jerry Baker showed up just hours before the race with a one off deck cover. I found this boat in 2013 and now race it.

4th is a 89 Baker Rampage we have ran the last couple Parker Enduros with. Hull weights 850lbs unrigged, 1350 in race trim minus driver and fuel. Solid ski layup and it can handle the beating.

I have an ‘87 Baker Custom RST Open Bow. The Mercury 140 Inline 6 was toast when I bought it so I put a Suzuki DT140 on it. I haven’t run it yet but it has a 13.25x23P stainless prop on it. Any ideas what speed I can expect?

Here are a couple pictures of the old setup and then the new motor mounted. When I bought the boat it had no seats or anything, taught myself the upholstery and rigging process.

Congratulations on finding a Modvp hull from the pictures it looks to be in fair shape.
Odd that it had a tower of power on it.
Based on the railing it probably was built that way which I'm assuming Jerry made very few.
Your current setup will probably get you in the maybe mid 50's.
That boat probably started life with a 2.4 200.
Looks like it still has the stock setback that Baker sold his RST with. Your Suzuki LU looks like its seen better days.
If your going to stick with this setup make sure you have water pressure and have fun.
If you choose to look for a bigger motor I would find a carbbed 2.5 and cut the heads for 91 CA or 92 everywhere else in Merrica.
Put a 24 Trophy on it because it is a open bow "heaver in the bow" with a lower water pickup LU, set it around even or 1" below
and try it. You may get into the 70's.
It takes power and setup to make it into the 80's.
    Let us know your progress

Ok last night was the maiden voyage for the RST. She did 50 mph with a chewed up 23p prop and minimal adjustment with trim and no adjustment on the jackplate.
I have no idea why my pictures keep loading sideways.Click image for larger version.

Sounds like your first time out was a success.
Buy or borrow some props to find something that works for you.
BTW nice job on the interior

    I have a openbow too.
91 Laveycraft Seabring tunnel with a 91 200 and it will only get into the 50's but it's a solid fun family ride.

Looks like a very similar design to the Baker. I'm all about speed but when I have friends on board they prefer a smooth, slow ride. I'm rarely by myself. I'm probably going to try a 24p or 25p prop and see if I can make it into the high 50's.

Pilotryan while the boat you posted photo of is a Baker it is not an RST. The RST is longer with a rounded rear deck and engine splash well.

I'm going to take a stab at this one and say your 18.6 Baker which I believe was built in 84 and up was a different design bottom and deck to compete with Stoker, Sleekcraft, Hydrostream, LTV's and others that don't come to mind
