Awesome thread guys! There is something about a 300hp outboard on a 300# hydro and 100hp of N2O...Is there a quicker or faster outboard boat? I remember watching a wooden one splinter 1/2 track with an OMC V8 F1 motor on it, right in front of where I was standing. I don't recall the driver, maybe one of you guys know? It was Evansville, IL around 1990.
Here is one of my favs from back in the day...Tom Kunzeman RIP I have more of this boat, I have to find and scan them.Jason

Do you know who that is in post 123? I know Larry Boyd used race number 222 when I raced him in 1984. He had a beautiful Ron Jones hull then...that red one looks like a pugh. Also notice the UO class, Unlimited Outboard...not a bracket racer.

Barron, I don't remember where I collected that photo from. I am pretty sure it is a pugh also. I am sure someone here knows though.

Jason, I just realized looking at the boat in your post, that it is the same hull that "The Sting" that I drove was, as well as Tom Kunzman's was, and that a capsule has been added. Are you saying Sun Valley is the builder? The Sting was made by the original manufacturer, I think, then Tom's and at least two others that were on the circuit around 1990 were built by someone else, (same mold) but I can't remember the name of any of them. Anyone out there with any knowledge of these hulls? Jon Wright do you remember what Merriotts boat and the other guy named John that raced with us around 1990, what their boats were?

Am I the only person to own that hull and still stay married!
I did get three good passesw with it here all over 130 and it was a blast. Wish I would have stayed together in NM cause there was an alky hydro that needed hurt. His best was like 125 I think. Good luck this year Ronnie.

Hey Jason, who was your buddy that owned the capsule Sun Valley?
Barron, Larry Boyd built about 12 (best he can remember, lol) of the Sun Valley Hydros. That white one looks like 1 that crashed in the 90's when the skeg broke.
Dave Seldecki (Krazy Boat) in Illinios has Larry's old boat.

Barron, i tried a speedmaster and it didn't have the holeshot that the bigger case has.
Although the boat is fully capable of running big #'s on the top end, I would rather give the big blocks a blast out of the gate and make them wonder how they just got beat by a 153 cu in V-6 OUTBOARD!!!
Most of the hydros I've seen ride low to the water and in my opinion, causing too much friction. Your boat rode high, and probably if i was to guess, had tremendous mid range pull and would keep pulling way past the 1320'.
What depth sponsons did your boat have?
I just finished cutting my transom down 5" and in my opinion, will not notice any difference in center of gravity from the motor torque as compared to a v-bottom boat. I forseen a few advantages for the shorter mid:
a: less hassel with the rope catching the cowl
b: less stress on the driveshaft (bent 4 shafts from torque)
c: less wind drag (should pick up .0001 second)
d: doesnt look like a volkswagon on the back of the boat
