Ronnie, I steer my motor. Afr, the sponson depth is 4 and 1/4 if I remember correctly and I do have air traps they are just over two inches behind the sponsons and taper to one inch at the back of the boat.

Gary Pugh is...
tha man!
Raced against him way back when.
Would never question what he said, just always wonderd.
afr, air traps are a breeze to make. Hell, I figured you had them on by now and had been out making passes
With as much weight as you are carrying and especially at that power level, start with full traps and cut them down when the speed and power tells you too. The full traps will really help you carry the weight.
Freddie, I can walk you through posting large oix's if you want.
If I can figure it out........

yea i can make anything
i will pop them on there soon and go up a hole
see what i get
no i had to go sea trial a customers boat not my boat
and the motor just shut off
i just had the carbs done
it ran great on the hose
shoot then it came back then gone again then back then gone again
so we had to paddle back in to the ramp
makes no sense i think we lost the neutral safety switch in the control box
and its all bran new stuff i just put on
shoot i might even have two 8 foot strips of penski board there in the corner
after all that i should have just went for a ride in mine
to cool me off
then i got my hopes up for this boat again then bam shot down
they all were right and i was told what where you thinking building a hydroplane with no guidence from anyone who knows what to do to do it right
why learn the hard way when you dont have to
oh well
im a dum ass some times
now i almost got the fastes 4 cyc anyone has ever seen and its good for what

Afr, it's good for rope racing. Bring it to Kentucky lake and race. There is no weight to make or motor regulations, just pass safety and race. The Wright Bros. were laugh at too but they did fly first. Keep up the good work. Gary, I didn't know you raced kneel downs. That's cool, you ever run one of the alky 250s?

afr and Freddie
afr, Dude....whats the deal??? You built your own damn boat with no help or guidance and now you feel bad??
If I liseten to everyone that called me a dumb ass for my projects I wouldn't have done any of them!
I go fats with home brewed JohnRudes so if you ever want to compare notes for being kicked when you're down...you'd lose.
Just keep on learning and keep on doing what you do!!
Freddie, yep 9 yrs.
Designed and built my own boats and motors and banged on my owm props.
Never did a true 250, fastest I ever ran was what was called Mod 20 or RB 350 (cc) with a sliding chamber on a hydro, tunnel and a runabout.

yea whats up with that right
lol
lt just made it all better
im not designing this next boat i will tell you that
im going to Pugh
or another guy in Seattle
or ken himself
ill get the set up going and install all the parts and ask the questions
i cant waste there money
plus they got engineers for the power anyways so i dont have to worry about that anymore and by going with them as the designers on the boat
all i be is the driver and the founder
its all good

there are some...
(Didn't know you "designed" yours too )
pretty good plans available for the smaller classes (11' to 13') that you could stretch.
Ken doesn't do anything like that anymore either.
If you go to some of the kneel down races there is always stuff for sale and you can usually get a smaller boat (bare) for pretty reasonable and take it home and copy it.
Way easier to find that smaller stuff in a 3 point than the big stuff like on this thread.
Gary Pugh may be the only guy activley building anything and it would not be cheap.
If you really have your heart set on building there is one of our Canadian S/F brothers that is God in tunnel boat design and sells a book and CD on design and is the ****!
I have the book and it is very, very good.
Basically plug in the size you want, the power, the load your going to carry and it has formulas to tell you everything else.
Check it out.

yea i know him
i forget his name
that's coming
i talked with him several times i want the puter version
this one is going to have to be another one off as well
ken wont even help with the drawing
we will see what kinda money they want to throw at it
then ill know what way i have to go
but it has to work right out of the box
big corporate companies want performance right away
and that makes me a little nervous
i been looking around at those boats even went to Avon park last year
learned a lot from them just by looking around
i need to go 140 or as close as possible and its going to be all electric power
my buddy john paramore and all the sream and fly guys byu boyz the oberta team the hoops team /ron hill several big names in speed all have contributed with design change ideas now you guys
i have been on the phone conversing with all theses poeple john think,s 120 130 is possible he is the apba chairman for the electric,s
he help me get the boat set up the way it is now and also help with the design fixes
i was going way to steam line trying to minimize drag
this boat was never even supposed to get a gas motor
there is three teams in the running for the record
two here in the us and one in europe they claim they went like 86
but im told they recharged between runs
to much monkey business for me any more
ill just point it and shoot it and try and put all the right people together

I've seen some of the ...
fast ones and they're all on kneel down boats ( 2cyl class stuff about 10 - 11') and most using fork lift motors
watch weight cause that will kill you especially with the battery weight
when I ran A Stock hydro (15 cu in motor) the min weight was 330 complete
you could be over but you'd lose
I built my boats as light as I could get them and still live.
Built one with a 1/8" bottom and weighed 57lbs (maybe a record??).
Built it in the basement of the apartment I lived in and carried out myself
Use Spruce for all your stringers and cross members if you can get it or clear white pine (almost same thing) if you can't.

belive it or not my rig is under 500 as it is
and it is 1/8 inch all the skins are
the framing is clear fur
but the add ons the design changes all added weight
it was under 100 out the door the first time now maybe 250
we got the lightest batteries in the world standing by
the motor i tried was a complete wash the numbers where way off
from what i was told they were after i got the motor and ran the tag and got the guy who built it on the phone
now we are going in a whole new direction
i tried to make a clamp on style we still may be able to use the motor
i will leave that up the sponsor im out on that end
just give me the power i am asking for thats all i need

Good read here guys....
Ronnie, what kinda times / speed you gettin with the Kaase? Ron brought that hull with a monster goodman motor out to one of my races in New Mexico, but kept blowing lower units on it....never got anything more than a holeshot or two out of it that day.... I wanted that hull to play with, but the now X-wife could not see another race boat in our future...... cured that...
What lower unit you using on it ? looks good... RussRuss Benton

Hey Russ, same ole song & dance with me too on lower units...
I've gone through 9 XR-6's and trashed 1 200 case last year with a stock 260.
My best ET was 11.01 @ 93 with a whacked ECU and all 6 injectors flooding (Linda @ Brucato will vouch for that, lol) Next pass broke the mid section and the prop started chipping the transom...(Jim Brinkley and Bill Mason witnessed that) Next race took out the drive shaft spline on the launch. Next race blew a carrier. I finally made a launch with nitrous and the ECU took a crap and lost power at 400' and the rest of the season went like that, good start, loss of power, and finished at 64 - 72 mph, lol. I tried 3 analogue ECU's (all I had) and tried a Brucato ACU that Tony programmed for this 260 and it left harder, but fell of as well. After season was over, i borrowed Travis Tuttle's A-6 and MAN!!!! this boat launches like a pro mod. I ran outta prop at 700' and was turning 10,200 with a 24 yammi. I tried Bill Mason's 26 Hoss and torched #5 in 100', lol... with them watching.
Funny you mention your "X" and this boat, before Ron bought it, I looked at it in Oklahoma and called my "then" wife and she suggested leaving it in Oklahoma. The day I move her into an apartment, Ron put it up for sale.
We'll see this year...

Ronnie, I ran the three different hydros a total of six years with a speedmaster and never had lower unit related failure. I was on the N2O button one second after I hit the start button everytime. Just sent the L/U for freshen up at the end of each season. Plus the speedmaster and 10 inch prop handles like a dream. Who needs neutral and reverse...It's a race boat ain't it????
