The dates are August 22, 23 and 24, 2008. We will have the skiffs running on Saturday. OPA classes will include the Pro Series this year also and it will be televised. Louie

The classes are done by speed of the boat? How would they figure you maximum speed prior to the race?

Hey Ghost, The speeds are bracketed, except for Extreme, Supercat and the Skiffs.
The backeted Speeds are as follows
Class 1 115 mph top speed
Class 2 105 " " "
Class 3 95 " " "
Class 4 85 " " "
Class 5 75 " " "
Class 6 65 " " "
The speeds are set up with prop calculations, and monitored with GPS on each boat, there are also some rules for the classes such as single engine for class 6 boat under 26'. If you go on OPAracing.org the site has all the rules for the classes, info on joining to race and such. A site on OPA is the Jersey Boyz which has all the team info and pictures.

PS www.greatsouthbayracing.com in our local organization and also has info posted as we go about the Long Island race.

Hey Ghost,
The races do not have a site entry fee, what we do have is an equipment fee for the boat and $100 per man for the crew. If I remember right the entry fee for the boat fee is $600 and both are for the entire year. You can do as many or as few races as you like. Our Awards party is this Saturday on a cruise liner circling Manhattan, If your entertaining racing this is the place. OPARACING.ORG is the site with all the info.
