i would just take off the muffler and have them weld a pipe and just go with a superchip programer and put it on 60 horsepower thats how put it on my old mans truck and it gets really fuel mileage..

not on the 1997's... no waste gate, and the down pipe looks like a deck of cards... the down pipe is restrictive as hell, as is the cat and muffler... I gained 9 lbs of boost puting a downpipe and straight 4" exhaust on a 1997.... with the stock turbo....
get a 3 or 3.25" down pipe and from the down pipe go 4" straight, on that truck..
I have a Banks 120 hp Powerpack, best milege I get is 17-18 BUT in the trucks defence I also have 9" lift, 38X15.5's and stock gearing..
a 40 HP chip, the exhaust and stock height I got 21-22 on the freeway and 19 towing a 4000 Lb boat trailer.
my average is about 15 no mater what I do around town ass it sits
WORST milege i ever got was 8 MPG.. but had a 25K lb trailer and 12K on the truck
the 1994.5-1997 is a totally different animal than the 1999-2003 7.3's and max you can get is about 350 hp before the fuel system cannot keep up..Last edited by 150aintenuff; 06-12-2008 at 12:10 PM.

hey 41 ive used bully dog, banks, edge products and the best one that that i like best is edge it is the easyest to put in and simplest to operate

edge is easier but they also do not build a easily fitting down pipe for the 1994.5-1997 trucks, their pipe require trimming of a flange and seam on the cab and fire wall, the banks product has a slightly different angle and 9 times out of 10 no cutting or modifications are required other than cutting up of the original down pipe to remove it

I just finished putting a downpipe on my 1995 powerstroke dually. It came with a 2 piece down pipe. I think the hardest part of cutting out the stock downpipe and finding a way to bend the pinch weld. If you are doing one and have to modify the pinch, try cutting it in 2 places with a sawzall and then using a port-a-power to bend it. It made doing mine really easy.
For chips, definitely check out Jody at DP Tuner or Tony at Total Diesel Performance. I have seen nothing but excellent results from either of them. Also, don't forget to get gauges, especially if you are towing. EGT gauge is the minimum, but a boost gauge is nice too.

I never pinched the welds.... I just kept cutting it apart and it fell out in 4 pieces
new one dropped right in

Sorry if that made no sense, I wasn't talking about pinching the welds on the downpipe.
The pinch weld is that flange of metal where the floor pan meets the firewall. To fit the downpipe in, unless you get one of the lucky Banks ones that doesn't require trimming, you have to bend this pinch weld flat to give room for the downpipe.

has nothing to do with lucky banks pipes or anything, some trucks arent nearly so broad in the weld area as others...... my truck had plenty of clearence and no pinching was required

I don't know if I'm too late but dp tuner all the way. Also I recommend getting gauges, if you plan on towing.
