driveshaft pitting
Tom,
Do a "waterpump seals" search. There are quite a few threads on the exact problem you're facing. There are alot of fixes mentioned, ranging from rechroming to installing speedy sleeves. I had the exact problem with my 3.0l torquemaster shaft. I ended up finding a perfect used stainless steel driveshaft for $300. It seems that some other guys have had alot of luck with some of the fixes mentioned in the other threads. It seems to be a pretty common problem.

pitting
The speedy sleeve fix works. You can go to chicago rawhide a bearing company. most of the time they fit tightly but if they don`t some of the hi end medal type epoxies will keep it their. this fix can be done without taking shaft out at least I have sucessfully done this on a 2.5. I am told some of the smaller mercurys have a sleeve like this from the factory. I was told by Jack Barsh that they have the shafts spray welded and returned with suceess. good luck

You can find a company that "metalizes" and can build the pitted area up and take it down to correct size........( piece of cake )
Good luck,

Speed sleeve works. Sometimes the Billet Seal Kit from MADEFI works as it uses 4 seals instead of 1 like stock. Wayne also has 20" 1 piece driveshafts at a reasonable price too. He just replaced mine.
