repainting possible?
Need help
I have a 96 30ft Awesomecat.
The boat has the original paint & has been wet sanded & buffed.
Looks good for about a month, then it needs it again.
30ft cat., once is alot of work but having to do it every month, NO FUN!.
The problem is that I would like to leave it in the water for about a month at a time, then I pull it out, clean off the bottom & put it back in.
I live on the water & dont want to pull out every week-end.
If I repaint the boat, will I have trouble with the new paint since it sits in the water for a month.
Other option is to put graphics all over it but some of the graphics would be below the water line.
My Question: If I repaint it, will it peel from sitting in the water (month)?
If I put graphics, will it start peeling after a month.
End of story: I want it to look good, sit at my dock for about a month before I have to clean the bottom.
What would be the best thing to do.
I would graphic or paint the top & sides. The bottom still looks great & I do not want to touch the bottom.
Any advise would be great.
Thanks to all & have a great holiday season.
Jeff

Sides and top you will be okay unless your in salt water. The bottom no matter how well it is painted will bubble if left in the water that long. If your going to go for a good paint job on that size boat she will run you any where from 7500 on the cheap side up 15k done right (one color nothing crazy). In the end find a way to get her out every week when your not using her, otherwise I think your throwing your money away.

Would graphics hold on the sides (under the water line)

I have not met anyone with a graphic wrap that isn't experiencing some peeling somewhere. You could shoot it with awlgrip for cheap and call it a day but it isn't supposed to be used below the waterline. I would be reluctant to leave it in the water. You'll end up with a blistered hull.

This might be a long shot, but i remember some boats using this guy called stickerdude ? They customize the boat with one huge sticker. Could work?

painting
HI. I think imron polyurathane enamel is the most commonly used re - paint coating on boats around here but only above waterline when boat is in the water for lengthly periods. Maybe consider having it re-jellcoated with a anti-fouling bottom possibly to color co-ordinate and you could re-apply as necessary. I myself would not have it cleared because any med. to dark color the clear bumper or dock rubs show as a whitish smudge or scratch. And if future spot in is needed it can be sanded and buffed for a better easier repair thanks.

Repainting possible ?
Base coat clear coat.....I'm having mine painted right now. I'm using House of Kolorz, but alot of folks seem to like PPG.

Imron polyurathane or base coat clear coat
Keep in mind I only want to this once
Is these my best options & which one would be better.
I dont mind taking it out every 2 weeks., but would like to leave in the water for at least a couple of weeks, then take it out for the day for cleaning & put back in the following day.
Thanks guys, this helps with my project.

is there a posiblity of putting in a lift???
Watch it using House of Colors I had issues with a motorcycle I painted you must use ALL HC products..the ppg primer wouldn't hold the paint when it got hot ( in the sun) it would lift from the primer..ennded up striping the hole thing and went with PPG

Hatteras Yachts painted the bottoms of their boats for years with Imron. I doubt very many of the didn't sit in the water for extended periods of time. Makes you think, eh?

Does that mean the ppg primer is no good, but the paint is ?
Boat lift is not realy an option because the water level drops & rises all summer. Would spend more time moving the lift.
Also would have to take it out before the winter (ice).
Thanks & keep me posted.
Looking at painting, end of March.
