It gets to be addicting I'm on my 5th set of tires in 125k miles....

Yea I don't see it happening anytime soon that's for sure.

Greg pro 50 I had a 95 lightning at age 19 1 yr and 7 rebuilt transmisions later it was sold. If ford would get away from those AOD transmissions they would be great trucks. I just traded in my 06 f150 the new ones suck in my opinion!!

I drove 2 like yours they rip one was in mint condition and the other had transmission issues. My old lightning also broke the spyder gears in the rear and I had to rebuild that also. I would love to have another but I finally have a clean driving record LOL!!!

Nice truck. Along with being very fast, the handling of that truck is second to none. When this body style came out it was said that the truck was capable of out cornering a mustang GT in the slalom course.

I drooled over those trucks as well. Having a couple of little kids at the time forced me to get a sedan. Anyway...I can't remember...Did those have any sort of tow rating?? I thought they had limited payload in the bed but did have a towing capability.

Nothin wrong with them and that 351w is a hell of a lot more reliable then the 5.4 junk mod motors. Fords move to them was one of the biggest mistakes ever, I get so many calls a week on those things it's unreal. They also don't interchange easily, real pita. IMO the last real F150 rolled off the line in 1996 The newer L's ruin good, but take that blower off and they wouldn't be squat.
    I'm currently boatless

I race my tow truck with the NHRDA (national hot rod diesel association). Im the slow guy at the track running mid 15's. I weigh in at close to 8000lbs. 35" tires, 3.73 gears, 6" lift and a mostly stock 7.3 powerstroke engine. The weight and height, and rolling resistance of those big tires KILLS me on the track. If I dropped back down to stock height/width tires, and lost the lift kit and some weight, that "mostly stock" powerstroke would be in the mid to high 14s.

The guys I race with tend to be wayyyy faster. Mostly dodges running in the 12's. The 2wd guys run slicks, and actually squeal the tires the length of the track if surface prep was not done well enough. If surface prep is really bad, I'll bark all 4 tires on a launch. I launch at close to 15psi of boost, lock the torque converter while still in 1st gear and try to get into overdrive as fast as I can and rely on the low end torque instead of trying to run high RPMs.

The really fast guys are running low 10s now consistantly, and a couple of them are playing in the high 9's, but since they dont have NHRA licenses for that fast, they have to dial the trucks back. These are "technically" street legal trucks, but havnt seen the street in years, and are pretty stripped down, and barely considered street legal anymore.

The guys running 11s and higher tho, usually drove to the track on their own, or even towed someone elses race truck!

And yes, some of these motors are going into boats. I put 3 QSB-480 (480 hp, inline 6 5.9 liter) cummins motors into a fountain 48 express cruiser with 3 arnesson surface drives. And those were EPA tuned engines. Let me do to those motors what the truck guys are doing, and 600+ hp each is not out of the question
