Hmmm V8, or my old Looper
First,
Hi Jim,
Glad to hear you are happy with it. That was a good running motor. Send me pics of my old girl when you have some.
Guys thanks for all your support during this time of weakness. I should take this time to apologize to you all for stepping to the other side.
I have been storing this old looper in my garage for about 4 years now. It was on my Valero when I bought it from my friend. I have had it since. It was built as a drag motor, it ran when it was last used, but he never worked the bugs out. He says he has a basement full of performance parts for it that could practically build a second motor. I think it is an early to mid 1990s 225. I asked him what he wanted to do with it today and he said I could have it. No gearcase though, (Jim you got that with the Vindicator, because I blew the original one and stole that one from my friend when I sold the Vindicator to you). Is that a good motor to work with
OR
should I look for a V8. I always heard the V8s have issues. How much does a good V8 cost?
Paul what kind of gearcase did you run with the V8, how much setback, what prop?2004 Hydra-Sports Vector 2600 - twin 225 Yamahas

Hey guys, our group therapy worked!!
At100plus came to his senses! He is well on his way to recovery.
Mike, the drag motor might have had a torque-ectomy for top-end. If so, the Superboat might be heavy for it to jump out of the hole. If it has bugs, dude, I'd wish you buglessness. I've had my share and until Monty jumped all over my motor, I kept having crap to deal with. Frustration is NOT good whenyou want to turn the key.
Why not get that motor and try it as a drop-on? You'll have a back-up, and something to play with. But get a motor cheap, tear it down, send the good parts to Monty or Stoker, and let them do their magic. You'll have a killer set-up. If you let them do the assembly, you might be able to get a dyno prediction. Monty will tell you w/o the assembly, Stoker will put his name behind the dyno reading if he does the assembly. Some others only tell you lies. So pick your engine builder with care. I'll let you know what Monty's heads do for the Vindicator. I'm still getting base numbers for comparison. I have to fill the relief holes, so I'm doing two things at once, one set of head gaskets.
As for the V8, speedracer beat me to one by 20 minutes! I shelved the idea b/c I have extra motor parts for 2 V6's, so it didn't make sense to go to an 8. But I have thought about it. The Sleekcraft is heavier than your Super. I'm still working on set-up, b/c I've been spending so much time on fixing crap, like rebuilding the hull, etc. But I like the torque, and it swings the 28 chopper pretty well. It swings the 19 ski prop very well! Well, you know, you had the same motor that I have.
There use to be a pair of 8's for sale for $4k, check Monty's site. Been awhile so they might be gone.
Glad you are thinking better now. No appologies necessary. You had a lapse, but you are on the road to recovery!Sea ya, Sleekster

V8
Looked at the Monty Site. Looks like V8s are going for under 5K and you can do some work to em for around $1400 ( Big Smile ) That's a whole helluva lot better than the $18000 price tag on the 300X that is said to have it's quirks still.
IF ANYONES SEES A V8 OUT THERE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
Can I run my new Hynautic front mount K-10 Steering ram with a V8 or will I have to get a side ram like a latham?
I will fix my PM 225 and sell it, and I will part out the Looper I have and that should cover the cost of the V8 and rigging.2004 Hydra-Sports Vector 2600 - twin 225 Yamahas

at100plus........
You had that "HST" and sold it, we need more of them out there. As for the V8, only way to fly.Mine was toasted end of last year, they are rebuilding it for $5,000.00. Took out quite a few piston's on her , should be better than new when I get it back.

The pair of V8's, the guy was asking $4500, but...
I saw the same pair, on another site for $4000. The picture is of them on skids, right? The guy would have taken $4k at one time, might be worth an email or call. 25"ers though? I've forgotten.
If you get them built right, 400, 450 HP's are w/i your grasp! Plus the dock-apeel is great!

OMC PICS LETS SEE EM
Psych me up!
Wildthing, I love your HST, looks bad as hell with that V8.
I didn't sell my HST, I wrecked it. That was my favorite boat, was spotless too. What a shame. I still wake up in cold sweats at night over that boat.
Sleek, where is this pair of V8s??????

Hey Paul O
I'm going to be in Long Island today. Give me a call on my cell if you are around, would like to see your rig. I'll be at Helmut's house. We are both boatless. Is your motor Hoser's old one?

V-8's
I have the S.Fla. Boat Trader delivered to me in Ohio and there is usually a couple in each issue and they are cheap down there.
2 in this issue for between $1700. - $2200. both 25" though.
A power head advertised at 400+ HP's for $3500.
There was one advertised for months with controls and a stainless prop that ran good for $1200. OBO!
Almost good enough to require a road trip!
Also a Mirage Jaguar w/a Monty V-8 that runs 118 radar.
GaryI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Starting a new thread for pics
Entitled, OMC HOT ROD PICS
Going to post some pics of my HST and Valero with Vindicator.
Laker, I agree with you, there is something special about an OMC hotboat. Not a "ME TOO" motor.2004 Hydra-Sports Vector 2600 - twin 225 Yamahas

The 8 twins aren't there, musta been sold....
Instigator has a keen eye for this good stuff. If a Florida trip were needed, Scott needs a motor picked-up in St Pete area! The V8's are usually down toward Miami. I saw the ad for the $1200 V8....like I said, I shelved the idea, for now!
I'll keep an eye out too.Sea ya, Sleekster
