    OMC question

Can you get a 250 with a 20" shaft? I was looking at the OMC online and the specs show only 30" and 25". Anyone know of a 21 Superboat with one of these?

I think the 250 20" was a special deal in 2001. Someone that is a OMC dealer will probably know more but I am pretty sure they had one for the Bass tourney guys.

Question Think it depends on the year

When I re-rigged my Sonic I was ordering new '99's and had a chice of the 250 Ocean Pro in 25" or the 225 H.O.s (same powerhead) in 20".
At that time I'm fairly sure you could'nt do the reverse.
Also don't think you could counter rotate the H.O.
Don't know squat about the new ones.

    Prices

What do the 250s cost and the 225 HO? How long have they been making the 250 and is it hard to find a good used one?

    OMC

Instigator - yes you can counter rotate the HO. We're running a 25 talon w/ HO's

At100+ - The 250 is not avalible this year with a 20" shaft. The As far as prices you can find used HO's around the $7k range. I havn't seen many 250's on the used market. Wildman has some 2001's for $8500.00

The 225HO and 250 Powerheads are identical. Get a 225HO.

    Should I return to OMC?

Reason I'm asking is because I blew my Pro Max the other day. See attached pic. I've had this Merc for about 3 years and it has been pretty good. I grew up with OMC. I had a 225 Vindicator on my Hydrostream HST when I caught a wave at the wrong angle and busted the hull to bits. Then I got a Valero YT and rigged it with the Vindicator and it was too heavy. That's why I got the Merc.

Now I have the 21 Superboat and weight is not such an issue anymore. I was thinking of getting a 300X next year (so damn expensive), but now I have to decide what to do sooner. I also want to get back into business soon because summer doesn't wait for slow pokes.

Do I drop on a 260? Rebuilt and do some perf work on the Pro Max, or go back to OMC? If I go back to OMC should I still rebuild the Pro Max to sell, or will I get more for it parting it out?

    Another thing worth mention

Since I'm spending money now that I wasn't really ready to spend (I'm remodeling my kitchen) I would like to see at least 80 MPH with the 21 Superboat so the replacement power has to be I'm guessing 250+ hp. Anyone know of an 80+ Superboat with OMC power (besides V8).

    Step into the light

I like OMC,but thats my opinion. The 225HO is the big gun right now. 80 mph with a V6 is a lofty goal. I don't know how heavy your hull is and how fast it was going with the ProMax.
I wish Bombadier would bring back the V8. With weight of the four strokes the V8 seems light.
A V8 on the back of a 21 Super Boat, Challenger, Scorpion just looks cool.

    Speed with Pro Max

With the Pro Max 225 it always ran 70. With just me and 1/4 tank it ran 75 once.

    You guys don't think a 250 will run 80?

Then new 250s aren't fuel injected? Do you guys run the VRO or yank it?

Cool Could it be we have a Prodical on our hands?

Rejoin the fold, son, you'll be happy you did. Of course some of us have never strayed to the dark side as you have...

The Superboat is a great looking hull. For the price of a 300 Promax, buy an OMC 225, send the powerhead to Monty or Stoker and you'll be better-off for less $.

I have a Vindicator on the Sleekcraft right now, and it is running well. I have hopes (a step away from plans) to send a block to Monty. Stoker's famed article on 300 hp from a V6 could be the wave of the future.

We would be honored to have you rejoin johnnyrude-dom.
    Sea ya, Sleekster

    Cool VRO

Im running the VRO on mine and am very confident it is getting plenty of oil.I have already burned three gallons of oil this year! Mine works out to 40-1 ratio on VRO,But with the MERC I ran 32-1 and had to mix it myself.I ran a crossflow 13 years on VRO and it was going strong when I sold it.Go 3.0 no matter what you do. A 300 hp Looper can be had with mild porting and compression, Much cheaper than a 300X.
