    Pyros

A mate of mine has an 01 3L 225EFI (carbon reads, cut heads & a Mad tuner) that has pyros installed in the exhaust adaptor plate, he initially had the probes into the exhaust 1&1/2 inches and was getting readings of over 1400 degrees, obviously this was flame temp as the piston tops looked really rich and he didn't destroy the motor. he them moved the probes so they are 1/2 inch into the exhaust and his readings dropped to 800-850 degress which seams more appropriate. Why would moving the probes make this much difference?
