    1966 turbine thunderbird

I just purchased a 1966 maritime that had turbine engines and was raced by jim wynne # 15 Thunderbird and the mercury racing teem#70 Mona Lou 11. I am looking for any info or pictures that might help document this boat and its race history. I would like to make a nice folder with some original photo's if possible. Any color photo's would be a great help! I would like to restore it back to origin if possible so any help on finding st-6 turbines would be great. It is presently powered with two 454's with dual turbo chargers and arneson surface drives.
    thanks
    jim

I think Brownie is already aware via OffshoreOnly.com

http://www.searace-crouse.com/index.html for Crouse, http://www.searace-crouse.com/1race.html for his page where he offers to sell pictures of old offshore race boats

John Conners had some Turbines in his shop a few years ago. In Ft Lauderdale. They were in boxes.

    miss maritime?

is that the same boat as the miss maritime? if so, was originally machine turned aluminum, a green/aqua anodized or clear cote (not sure which). later purchased by mercury and painted yellow. used to watch him run in biscayne bay, and out haulover cut. if memory serves me , had united aircraft turbines in it.......

Yes it is the original turbime powered maritme that Jim Wynne and mercury marine owned and raced. There are pictures of it on offshoreonly.com since I bought it. I have started to strip the paint off and I plan on finishing it in the aluminum like it was when it was first built. I was wondering if you remember if it had just clear coat or if it had a tint to it?
I have not found any color pictures yet, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    color

the first time i saw the boat, it was machine turned (about 6" to 8" circles), and a green tint/anodized/clear(???) not sure about the finish, if it was anodized or painted on. not a "true" green, kinda a blue/aqua tone to it. i think, on this site, is a picture of ,what i believe, is the original color scheme. seeroy may be able to help here, we has discussed this boat on here.
