    23p Solas

I have a 93 Champion 18.5' bass boat. I am running a 23p Solas right now and on the first run with this boat I was impressed. It jump on plane in about 2-3 seconds and cranked around 6300 RPM's. I forgot my gps so I don't have any speeds but what should be resonable speed with this setup? I have an 8" jakeplate, and motor is a 175 2 stroke EFI XRi. I have a 26p Lazer II but thought it might be to big. I would like to get the rpm's down to around 5800 and still have good hole shot. I was running with about a 3/4 full live well and 2 people total in the boat. Any advise greatly welcome.

    Thanks

Ok, here is some more setup info. Please someone give some suggestions. The first couple times out the tach was reading 6300 trimmed up at WOT. Speed was 59 mph (gps). Then after the second time out the tach started reading 5700 at 59 mph (gps). It has read 5700 every time since. The prop itself looks to have been worked at some point but after searching here and several other places it appears to have a cup to it, but it is on the face of the prop edge not the trailing edge. The motor is on an 8" jackplate and 3-1/2" below transom. The boat had not been run for several months so since having it out several more times the boat is jumping on plane almost instantly, less than 2 secs. Anyone have any thougts on how to get a few more mph out of this rig?

Do you have a large or small gearcase? If you have a large gearcase than a 24 or 25 tempest would get you a few mph.

Since it's a 2 stroke I would assume it's a large, but how can I tell for sure?

Measure the inside of the lower unit where the prop fits. Its either 4.25 or 4.75.

    Try every prop you can.

5700 rpm, 23", yields 11%s slip, so your set up is OK. But try raising the engine anyway.
