Sounds like Toyota's American made vehicle quality is getting closer to the so called American made big 3 products. I don't know that I'm happy about what that implies about being "American Made".

I truly do not know.
They are truly very very tight lipped about all of it.
I know it's coming.
I will say!!
Do the words VOLVO mean anything???
Thats were Ford's small Diesel is coming from.
And from a industrial stand point Volvo is the deal!
GM , it's all new. Have no idea what it is.
Look for a 4cyc I think.
Maybe a very small displacement 6
it's not going to be a speed machine, it will be a torque monster for the mileage it will get.
But with this new Fuel they can make a diesel sing from what I understand.
If I knew I could sell the info to truck magazines!
It's true secret, and is seen as the next wave in the truck industry. It will be the next WAR on truck sales.
GM & Ford are the only ones in it. (AS OF TODAY!)“The bitterness of poor quality & service remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten”

Cummins has already developed and tested a v6 4.2l 325hp and a v8 5.6l 325hp and is planning a 2009 release. At least 44% fuel economy improvement over gas in half ton applications. They have been real world testing them in a Durango and a 1500 Ram.
I think the half ton and SUV market for diesels is where the big 3 could really get their game back on track.

The v6 is 270hp, for some reason the edit feature is not working this morning.

I'm very aware of what AVL does, I staffed the Ford program for the emissions compliance 2010 on "a diesel engine". I can tell you who 2 of the companies that they beat out in the bidding process.....I did not say volvo wasnt doing anything, but I certainly have not heard anything about it.
THey are not only testing and simulation, they are also very heavily involved in the design process.

yes, Logistics
The best design for assembly and manufacturing and cost.
A think tank, taking a product and simulating how to make it better in all aspects of manufacturing, assembly process and cost.
It's a different type of engineering and design.
Taking a idea or product and rethinking it in different areas of the automotive market.
These are the type guys that take a vehicle design and make it ugly for cost and assembly time savings.
They are one of several company's that offer the same service.
I hear 25 products come in! 1 might come out!
It's a round table, I was amazed at the design time of a product.( and that 1 out of 25 that make it) How many more company's they have working on other designs?
Thats were the money is!
Most people have no idea what goes on before a vehicle is built and what it takes to get it started.“The bitterness of poor quality & service remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten”

Al, AVL is very heavily involved in the "DESIGN" as in DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT. TESTING, SIMULATION, ETC. THe only thing they are not doing is manufcaturing. Trust me, I have more then 15 employees working there.
