    plz help guys....major misfiring...

I am having problems with spurratic misfiring /backfiring on my 225 looper...its a 1991. seems to have no get up and go and won't get itself to top speed. what should I look for, I am completely lost with it. It ran fine 2 weeks ago short of the idle being too high so it clunks into gear and out of gear....and the T-stat housings were leaking and shorting out the coils...once I dried them it was fine...yesterday it ran like it was soaked but I fixed the leak...just doesn't make sense to meeverything has 50 hours on it supposedly...now seriously doubting it with all the little issues he hid frm me when I bought it...can anyone help..give me an idea as to what could be the issue? It backfires horribly when it starts from cold....
Took me a year to figure out how to change the signature...guessing im kinda e-retarded

Do your basics first.... compression test and spark test. Check for water in the fuel. It's possible the water corroded the ground connection between the coils and the block.

thaks ...gonna go outside right now ond double check the grounds and maybe re-route them...does the motor have to be running to check the timing?

would elevation have anything to do with it? I am in Ottawa Canada which is 262ft above sea level and motor was bought in Tuckerton New Jersey..on the ocean....could it be my jetting is the issue?

You said it ran fine 2 weeks prior, so I would not think it's in the jetting. Maybe some crap in the carbs, but do your basics first. 262 feet of elevation is not enough for a jet change.
