Talking Merc powered Allison in OPC Super-Sport

I got a e-mail from a senior member of this board many of you know, Phil Conant . He tells me he may take me up on many invitations to come out and race with us in Super-Sport!!!!
Phil won many races in Outboard Drag and served on the Outboard Drag commision for several years.
This guy has a wealth of Hi-Perf outboard experience and as much "seat-time" in an Allison as anybody I Know!
I talked with Phil this morning and aksed if I could post this exciting news, he said..."sure,let's see what people think"

So come on all you Allison/Merc fans lets give Phil the encouragement he deserves, as I'm sure he'll be right in there with the "first to the turn guys"

We'd love to have you join our fun lovin' bunch of SS drivers and crew members!!!

The more the merrier! Come on out and enjoy the racing without the head aches. I don't like the holes a Allison leaves but I do enjoy the competition. Welcome to the fun!

    Thumbs up Rock On!!

I remember a Mod VP race they ran here in town years ago.
Was actually pretty cool, they ran on a small river down town Columbus and there was a bridge over the river that you could watch the race from.
Was a small, local race with maybe 5 or 6 boats.
I remember telling my buddy that was with me about the one Allison in the race (keep in mind this would have been about '85 or 6) that it was probably the fastest single O/B Vee bottom we would ever see but unortunatley time and technoligy had caught up with it and it's days were gone.
So we stand on this bridge and watch the modified Lemans start of the race and I am beside myself when I watch the Alli steal the start, and get to the first turn first!!
I figure, "a hole shot, cool".
Well he stays there, and wins the damn race!!
The only Vee bottom in the race.
I was an Alli fan before that race but after, I was a believer!!
My advice to you Phil, learn to drive it WFO in ruff water!!
My buddy Yammer, up in Toronto has an old Mod VP tape with (I think Glenn Reynolds) racing an Alli in Mod VP.
Watching that tape it was all about boat control in rough water!!
With the limited HP's that you'll have, you might be on to something with your Vee bottom??
    Good luck!!
    Gary

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Question times change, so do titles to classes, so,,,

as a member in good standing of the unwashed and ignorant may i ask where a allison w/2.5 w/who knows how much power can run in a class i thought is for stock 150 hp motors? is he going to put a small motor on his allison? are we talking a different class altogether? i have a 2 liter on a v bottom but it's modified a little, i thought i had no place to run and be competitive Phil can smoke my ass w/big cubes, am i missing something? in the days i hung around opc it called things different names. or are we talking a whole new boat for Phil? fun out.
