    280 or 300 on a hydrolift 22"

    Hello.
Have an 93 efi 2,5 offshore on my hydrolift sport 22" 1994 from Norway about 500 kg + engine. Has any tried the mercury 300 hk on a katemaran and how fast compare to the 260/280?

    Kindly Lasse

What 300? extra power IMHO is offset by the extra weight so I dont think it's a real top end gain. Maybe midrange but I'd tend to favor a good 280 for the Sportcat that will be quick. even a 200XS would be a good combo

Post 2003 280 with top pinned pistons can easily get the up to over 300.
There are plentnty of guys on the forum better qualified than me to give the advice have a look at some of the banner ads
I just think a sportcat would perform better with a good hot 280 than a 300 XS IMHO but I'm a power to weight nobba. I think there is a big difference over a 260.

I spoke to a guy at the marina and his son had a Hydrolift SC-22/Merc 300 and it ended upside down... Boat for sale and engine sold.

Dont have the contact details on the boat do you ........ need a new project for next winter and I like the SC22
much more styled deck than the linyx 22 which it was called in its first life, chris hodges design ( ex Cougar, then moved on to build his own succesful race boats), Hydrolift took it over redesigned the deck and given it the look it has today, hull remains unchanged just a deck revamp

Link to some pics & info below for those who dont know the boat

3 litre will work just fine for you, more torque for acceleration, enough power to offset extra weight, lots of guys run 3.0 motors on 21 Skaters with good success. Those hulls in the pics you posted will take the extra weight of a 300.

300 works well on those boats. The flip was at about 40knots slowing down from high speed so the boat is not damaged...

    Hi Brian, nice engine!
I'll look into the boat and get back to you. Meanwhile here is a project boat (brand new). http://www.finn.no/finn/boat/object?...84&WT.svl=Link

Here's a teaser to keep you warm: http://www.motorportalen.net/filmer/..._quickride.wmv

We got 40cm of snow in Oslo last night, did you get any in Denmark?

    Hej Aeneas,

Vi har ikke fået så meget sne i Danmark, og vandet er ikke frosset til
så vi kan sejle he he ,,

    Tak for hjælpen

tror du en 300xs er for tung til en sportscat?

    Hey Brian,
The boat carries a 300 with ease. They ran 2 x Merc XR2 in the 4 litre Offshore racing class. Most guys run 280efi or 300 on them. A friend of mine ran a tuned 280efi on a sc-22 he bought in Denmark. He blew the engine and sold the boat - now runs a Frodé 25/2 x Merc 200xs. He really regrets selling that cat... I think he is on this forum, I know he is on boatlife.se and boatsite.se if you want more info.

Vi får mer snö nu och isen ligger på fjorden... Längtar till våren!
(For you english speaking: Brian and I correspond in danish/swedish).

    /aeneas
