    1991 Carb'd 2.5L...convert to modern EFI?

Can an early 2.5L block be converter to EFI, and if it can what work/cost is typically involved? I'm new to anything other than 2.4L BP motors...

The easiest way to convert, is to find the entire laser EFI setup from another XRI, Laser, or ProMax motor.
Make sure you get the wiring harness, VST, ECU, and linkage from the donor motor.
Prices range from $200 - $600 for complete systems on S&F or Ebay.

You may have to hunt for a good ECU for your particular engine, or use a calibrated ACU. Make sure the injectors are clean and tested before you install on your motor too.

what type of injectors are normal? I'm use to high imp. injectors from the LS1 cars I've worked on for years.

You can also bolt up a BP or 260 horn front and tune appropriately, I've seen it done before. The Laser setup may be a bit less quirky though, and self-contained. No need for a fuel return line or anything.

If your motor is a true '91 2.5 200 carb its gonna have a seven petal front half so ya gonna need a 225 ProMax reed plate for tha Laser type. If ya go to tha horn ya gotta change tha front half of tha motor. Horn motor stuff can get kinda pricey. Either of which ain't gonna be cheap. Best and easiest, like Tony says, is the Laser with tha ProMax reed plate. A BP front half won't work on tha 2.5 without expensive machine work (that may or may not work) unless ya talkin' 'bout a rare "Z" port, but even that one usually has a 245 carb or 260 front half.......T

T…I see that you are in Fort Worth also, do you have any spare parts or anything of that nature around? Right now all I have to work with is a 1979 150 highly modded by my dad (went 93 on an old mod vp laser) and an O’day 225 2.4L that hasn’t finished break-in yet. I want to just go ahead and go to a 2.5L motor and have some work done on it and go to town. Once my new hull is finished up I don’t want to run a 2.4 on it and sacrifice power.

Do you have any type of 2.5 yet? If ya hadn't already started on one, my way of thinkin' would be ta save all your dimes and get ya a factory 2.5 hot rod ta start with. You would be way ahead on tha motor. Don't know whatcha runnin' but a solid, hard hittin' 2.4 on a light weight ain't a bad combination till a big motor can be had. Might have a few parts layin' round when ya figure out what it is ya gonna need....................T

I will probably end up just buying a complete 2.5L w/short shaft and running that and have a 2.5 block ported/built for later. Right now this O'day motor makes right around 220hp max. its stout as hell on the Laser, should run pretty well on the tunnel later.

They use low impedence Keihin injectors to allow high flow at very short pulse widths.
