need help to know what im getting into here?
I am looking at buying a 1988 stratos vt with a 175 on it, well I went and looked at it today, and the top is getting really fadded, so fadded to the point that you can almost feel the metalflake in the paint. So I am assuming that the gelcoat is gone, well my concern is that if I would have to regel the top, what do I do about the metalflake? Or is there anyway I can restore the factory flake? And would it be worth it anyway? Or should I just look to another boat?

My understanding is once the flake is exposed the finish is shot.
You can redo it with flake or whatever but I think you have to remove the flaked layer first.
Anyway if I'm wrong someone will say so and you'll get a better more precise answer.
Whether its worth it is anyones guess. Doing it yourself is pretty cheap, paying is not. If the boat costs a trifle and you get the paint scheme you want its a deal. Otherwise that finish is as is and will be your finish till you replace it.'90 STV
