1982 BR 184 with Mercury/Mariner 200 Blackmax (rebuild from 2 motors). She'll run 62mpg (GPS) with a SS 21 prop with full cooler, wife and kids (2). Put a new interior in this past winter (all cut, sewn and installed by me, except helm seats bought from veada) New Teleflex Lido gauges w/ GPS speedo.

I just picked this up. According to the title it's a 1983. I had it out twice now, weather hasn't been great. I hit 65.3mph with two of us in the boat with a no name 23p ss. I was running out of lake, but it still had a bunch more left in it.
I've been putzing around redoing the wiring, added a water pressure gauge and a blinker style trim switch. On the search for a hot foot now.

Looks like a 184SS like mine. Curious what you can get out of it bolted to the transom with that motor. Youll need a higher pitch than 23 though.

I have what I believe is a 16 SS. It is a 76 model ( registered as a 77).
Rigged with a newer ( '82) 115 Evinrude .
Top speed with two men is 50 on GPS. I have a 19p on it, ventilation plate is higher than the keel.
I love this thing!
It is a blast to drive, handles well and looks good in the water.
I do not have chine walk.
Gets up on plane immediately and you have the thrill of going fast as the boat is somewhat low to the water (freeboard).
I do not have a USCG capacity decal so I do not know what the max hp it is rated for.
I would like a built in fuel tank but other than that, for $500 I can't complain.
I am a Mercury Certified Outboard service tech and both of my family's boats are equiped with OMCs. Go figure.
I also have a similar boat that is slightly smaller at 15' and change. It is a Pieces and rated for 100 hp. I had it rigged with a 1500 Merc. I got that one a training aid while taking outboard repair classes. Currently in " project " mode due to a weak transom.
Looks alot like the Baja but fit & finish is of less quality.
Still was a fun boat to learn on and we skied most every weekend.

This is my 78 Baja 20ss with a 225 V6 Evinrude. I've had the boat up to 65 mph many times and have made some crazy fun 50 mph hard turns... This boat is fun as hell!
I traded my Evinrude 225 for the Mercury 175 Black Max (on the boat in the water picture), plus a Glastron Carlson C-500 Metric and $500. Then I smoked the boat that got my Evinrude 225! LMAO! Watch me walk away... atLast edited by dcpolasky; 08-21-2012 at 02:33 AM.

Mode12 can you post some more photos of your back seat? I have the same model and my back seat sucks. I'd love to see what the correct one looks like so I can work on getting a new one made.

These are the only pics I have on my laptop. It'll be a week before I could get some more for you if needed.

Mines built pretty much the same but I've changed the pattern. The bottom picks up and makes for a nice place to store ropes and such.
