Newbie here. I just bought my first boat, a 1981 baja 16ss with 115hp Merc. Have only had it for a week or so, but it ran great last weekend. It was originally sold from Tinus Marina in Oconomowoc, WI, so I wonder if member Triple J originally sold it. Ha! I'll post some better pictures of it on the water this weekend.

I just picked up a '81 15SS. Being rigged with a strong '86 90hp Evinrude. We'll know how it performs this weekend, I hope.

Nice. It's really looking good, I like the dark color. I had my baja 16ss up to 48mph last weekend on a small lake with a least 450lb on people on board. I'll have to wait for some calm water and will try with just myself on board.

Trying to find myself a decent ski pole that I can mount just in front of the transom and a decent depth finder. Also thinking of upgrading my prop but not experienced enough yet so I think I'll keep the aluminum prop on for a while.

Thanks man. Ya she's cleaning up purty good but that's due to alotta 'sweat' sanding? Dang it's hot! Heh heh

I have what I believe is a factory optional ski tripod too along with the boat. Might be willing to part with it if'n yer interested. But it mounts to the floor/deck in front of the rear seat.

Ya sounds like you oughta be able to coax a few more mph outa her with a light load'n the right prop?

Before I fergit my base hull color is black. Although it don't look like it at first glance. This pig is so flaky it's hard to tell ...

Your boat looks killer. Keep up the good work!

I've had my 184ss up to 54 on gps and that's with a big dumb tower on it, whistling away in the wind. I keep meaning to take it off for a run and see what it runs at.

Depending on your horsepower it should run good. Ive had mine over 70 with a 175 Mariner and threw my 225 short shaft Merc on it for a couple runs and ran 79 with me and my dad a 29 pitch 4 blade and no setup time. It will start to chine a tad in the 70s when you get her nose up but if I turn slightly to the left it will run flat as can be. Otherwise you have to rock the steering wheel to keep it running flat.

I thought that thing was scary at 54, you're far braver than I! Did you add a pad to yours? Mine is probably the worst handling boat I've ever had. I love it for skiing though and with the 150 merc I have on it, it goes well enough for that.

No pad. Its still got the V and full of wet foam under the floor. Should be taking care of that soon though. The boat is extremely stable at any speed. Maybe its just that Ive been driving the boat since I was about 10 or so but its far easier to drive than my Triad V-21. I wouldnt hesitate to take mine into the 80's with more setup and power. Also not sure if your bolted to the transom but Im running a 6" rapid jack. Ill try and post a vid later from when the Mercury was on it.
