Wow Jo that's a tiny one!
I'd love to know more about bajas! I was on the Delaware a few weeks ago and a dude in an old Checkmate came over to talk boats and told me they were from the same mold or something?? We need a baja wiki so I can learn this stuff!

yes, my westwind 15' is the same bottom as a checkmate mx15... im selling it minus the motor, whis is a 140 looper. have had up to a 200 on it!! it wasent safe by no means with the 200 and the 140 was still on the crazy side.. it ran best with the 70 johnson in the pics and a 90-140 crossflow johnson

Ressurecting an old thread but I have been surprised by the low speeds some people have posted. I have a 1984 184SS with a '88 175 Mariner with 500 hrs on a 6" Rapid Jack setback that will still push the boat over 70 mph. By myself spinning a Protester 25p it will get right at 75mph. With a cupped Quicksilver 23p it will still get to ~73mph but midrange is far better than the 25 and I can still pull skiers with it. 4 people, 30 gallons of gas and gear will get to ~68mph. I usually run a 19p for skiing though. The boat has been in the family since my dad bought it in '88 and put the Mariner on it. Not sure how much it helps but the guy that had it before us used it as a race boat and has done some sanding on the bottom and had tabs on it at some point. He had a worked over Johnson on it. The deck has seen better days as the silver gel coloring is almost brown but still a good running boat and fun to drive. Just not rough water friendly. Heres a few pics:

1975ish Baja- updates
I posted some pictures last year, but some changes to my 18' 1977ish Baja. I replaced the Johnson 175 with a 2002 Merc Optimax 200... possibly a little too much motor for the boat! Had it rewired, Smartcraft gauges installed and hydraulic steering.
Running a 26p Templus plus right now- runs in the high 50's but chine walks like crazy. Still getting the motor set up right, putting a jack plate on shortly to get the motor down in the water a bit more (huge roostertail at speed, prop is surfacing a bit too much) and away from the boat.
Next- hull has a bit of hook in it I want to get taken out in the fall...
