    Seadoo speedster repower options???

I am looking for ideas for repowering a seadoo speedster. I am open to most anything... inboard, outboard, small block v8/v6/I4. Just looking for ideas. I have no problem cutting out the rear storage tray under the hatch to open up my options. I can do fiberglass work, fabrication work for a cage to mount a motor in etc... Currently there are no motors or drives in the boat and I have under 300.00 in it.

Then you will have a new flower bed, cuz no one will want it after you chop it up. And chances are it won't even perform. Just sell it and buy an STV.

what do you want to hear... you can go ahead and chop that thing up and then it might not even run the way you want it to, you'll sink thousands of $$s into it when you could do as cobra said... it was designed as a jetboat, leave it as such... plus its lightweight, you'll have to redo the transom to support an outboard most likely, fill in the bottom and transom where the pump assembly was... reinforce stringers for bigger heavier power, and then you'll probably still battle weight distribution problems as it was designed to have a lightweight 2 stroke engine for the jet in back... it would be cheaper, and less years of your life selling that and buying a used go fast OB...

I saw the Sea Ray version of one at the boat shop. It had a Volvo outdrive with a 4.3 on it and they repowered it with a 5.0 mercruiser motor. It was a rocket to 50 then got very difficult to handle. I think it may have exceeded the design of the hull. He was just using it to drag the kids around on tubes and wakeboards, so it was good for that.

put a turbocharged I-4 or v6 I/O in it depending on the available room. Swap to an outboard would be cool but a big PITA.

I have a go fast ob to play with... as it stands now the speedster has no motors and no drives so its not like I can sell it really easy... the boat cost me 275.00. I am just looking for ideas. I have seen other small jet boats converted to outboards and they worked rather well once the hight of the motor was dialed in. But outboards are expensive. This wouldnt be some drag boat or something I would take out in the ocean. Just a project. something to play around with.

I have an even better Idea... there is a guy in town with a 42' offshore race boat with tripple 572's on it that I could by for 250,000.00 how about that.

well don't get mad that people posted their opinions on somethign that seems silly to them, build it how you want it and prove us all wrong that the juice in fact was worth the squeeze...

Its not supposed to be to hard to throw on some of the bigger Merc jet drives (175-235hp) that use a 2.5 outboard powerhead. Then, slap whatever OB powerheads you can find on it and have some fun. There is a guy with a Bayliner Jazz jetboat that swapped his 90hp sportjet for the bigger jet drive, then threw a 2.5 280 on it. Yours is a speedster so Im guessing that it has twin motors, right? Two 280's should be a blast in it. It would be a crazy little sleeper, thats for sure.
