    Does anybody remember...............

The world record (at the time) boat jump scene in the James Bond movie "Live and Let Die"??????????????

It was a Glastron with an OMC V4 on it.

I thought some one in 1980 or so eclipsed that by a good distance. I was only 8 at the time but remember watching it on TV . It was another Glastron, only bigger with a 235 on it. Red and white as I recall.

I think Norris is on to something here

I know many of you here are fans of the James Bond: Live And Let Die boat jump. I'm sure most of you also know that the boat used was a Glastron GT-150 powered by an Evinrude Starflite V4 125 - the most powerful Evinrude outboard at the time.

It just so happens that I sat next to Tom Ireland at the Mercury Media X-Cursion - the person that piloted the Glastron GT-150 in that jump, as well as performed other stunts in that movie. He worked at OMC at the time, and was a last minute replacement for the stuntman that was supposed to make the jump. He tells me that at the time, some feared that the Evinrude would not be powerful enough to allow the boat to make the jump, and they wanted to use a Merc instead. I tell ya, he's a very nice person, and very modest about it, but I was totally drawn into that conversation. I have a feeling he'll be along to tell us more about it. At the time (1972), the recorded jump distance set a world record at 110 feet.

I have a friend with a exact clone of that boat in very good condition. It's a fun ride. That had to be a hell of a lot of fun to do that entire chase scene.

    Evinrude????

The engine used in the movie was a 135hp Starflite, a 1973, I think. I remember reading somewhere that his takeoff speed was 56mph. I'm pretty sure the it was from 1973, jump was in guniess book of records for years.

There is alot of information posted on this site regarding the jump that could be posted here.

The boat was center steer, to help balance it.

The prop was an over the hub.

The boat had 2x4 strakes to stabilize it on the ramp.

They are obvious in these photos:

Oh, and the motor cowls are from 1973...
Funny, Aren't all older glastrons advertised as bond boats these days?

    Boat jump

I had heard the Glastron, Bond boat jump distance was beaten in the movie Gator with Burt Reynolds.
