Welcome to Scream and Fly. Off the top of my head, I'd say a 26 chopper should get you over 70. The BEST part of this web site is being able to get together with other boaters from your area to share ideas about props, setups, etc. Many are willing to let you try different props to see what works best.
That's why we always encourage people to post thier location. You'll be suprised at how many other members are near you. You could also start a thread asking where people hang out in your area.

On my hull, a big ear is only .5 mph faster over a small ear. I've used a Laser, and performance is similar to a chopper. For pure top end, the chopper should be better. Check out the thread for the Rondack Romp, lots of boats, great people, should be plenty of props to try. Coming up in 2 1/2 weeks.

just be carefull on tramson lift. i used a 4 blade turbo and lost total turning control. had a 150 prop rated omc turning a 23 ss at arround 70. the tempest prop would have put it into the 70s.

i didnt have a gps then so any mph are a guess. the prop calculator says it was over 70. i had a 24 hub racker that added 2 mph over that but was no good as over all prop. my only concern is dont use more than 3 blades. my motor was going straight down the lake and the boat was turning about 15 degrees to the left. thank god i had a foot petal to let off easily and straighteneed the boat, or i would have rolled the boat.

85 with a 30" chopper, 82.6 with a 28 big ear. 200 merc, completely stock, 1.87 gear. Prop shaft 1 1/4" below the pad, ancient Land and Sea nose without low water pickup. 2 1/4" of setback.
It's kind of boring to drive the way it is now. It runs too deep in the water, with too flat of an angle of attack. I prefer the hull to run a little more nose up, and have a "looser" feel.
Someday, I'll get around to making the changes that I need to get to 90

82.6 mph
Nice so with the extra 200 lbs and less HP I should see 70/75 ish or so?

I would think 75 would not be that difficult. Not too concerned about the actual weight difference, the big deal will be the balance, and getting it to fly correctly. Those tall windshield sections they come with are not helping speed either.

75 Mph
I have no problem getting the boat to fly or balancing it at 68 gps and dont have the goofy windshield got low cut ones but 75 could be a different ball game

A couple years ago, I was running a 150 XR2. Got a best of 77.3 with the same bad setup. I was too lazy and cheap to make it better, I went the easy way and added the 200 powerhead.
Do you run your propshaft even with the bottom?
